EDC When is it too much?

ok so recently ive been collecting all sorts of pocket tools and gadgets for my keychain and i started thinking when is it too much?
I EDC alot more than i realized i mean lets run down the list
in my pocket i carry a Wenger soldier model Swiss Army Knife
ON my pocket is clipped a Sheffield Lockback boxcutter
in my other pocket i carry a gerber shortcut a winchester SAK and a 2 gig thumbdrive
on that pocket is my cell phone
i always wear cargo pants and in the left leg pocket is my sunglasses earplugs a super spork and a mini maglite fiber optic accessory
in the right leg pocket is my lighter and smokes
in the rear pocket is my wallet and a small assisted folder from (as my dad would refer to it) Jabip
in the wallet is a small magnifying glass military tweezers a safty pin and a golfers divit tool
i also have on my belt a leatherman wave a mini maglite spare batteries and a lockback sheffield knife (think buck 110 knockoff)
on my keyring is an eyeglass repair screwdriver a Swiss+Tech plier tool a P38 can opener an aluminum bottle opener and last but not least a key shaped folding knife i gave my dad years ago that says dad on it and was returned to me after his passing
not to mention when i deliver pizzas i CCW a Raven Arms P25 or a Reck P8

the worst part is i keep finding things i want to carry as well

so do i have a problem?
should i join EDC anonymos?
or am i not the only one?

I can't tell if you are serious, but if you are, you definitely fit into the category of "Mall Ninja".

If you have to carry all of that junk, put it into a backpack or messenger bag of some kind.

Do you play golf? Why do you need a divot repair tool? When was the last time you manually opened a can outside of your home?

Consolidate.

Maybe, maybe not.

Do what I do, stay away from water deeper than 36 inches. ;)

On my key ring is a SwissTech Micro-Plus, Atwood Ti PryBaby, red Photon Microlight and a Peak LED Solutions single AAA Matterhorn light, 16GB thumb drive and a P51 can opener.
 
this is my basic EDC:

it changes or gets upgraded from time to time; i've switched from the Sigma to a 1911 w/an extra mag, i rotate my knives (but always carry 3), the OC now goes on my car keys alongside a HAK, i've got a more compact inhaler, and i have a newer phone with pic/video capabilities.

that said, i think the OP could cut down on some of the gear. there are things that are a bit...superfluous, and it wouldn't hurt to remove them, or at least replace them with something more useful.

i'd lose: the Sheffield Lockback boxcutter, super spork, mini maglite fiber optic accessory, golfers divit tool, P38 can opener, for starters. i might even switch the multitool for a better one, that would have the bottle/can opener, plus the screwdrivers.
 
I'm down to a pocket knife, a AAA flashlight, my billfold, phone and a pen in my pockets. My keys ride on a beltloop and my gun goes on the belt. I'd like to carry less but I use those items several times a day and I rarely find myslef saying "if only I had brought ______ with me today."

A lot of the stuff you are carrying seems like it is pretty job specific.

I open a ton of boxes for work, so I have a box cutter handy. I don't open many boxes when I'm walking around, so I don't carry one everywhere. I own a spork, but it stays in my backpacking equipment. Places that I eat at every day tend to provide utensils. I own a golf tool, but it stays attached to my golf bag, since I'm not normally repairing my ball marks if I'm not playing golf. If I counted right you have something like 4 or 5 SAK/multitools. I could see the need for a SAK and also a Leatherman, but it seems like you could probably cut out some of the redundancy to free up some space for that other stuff you want to carry.

As hso stated, it's up to you t decide if you are carrying too much, but I'd go insane with all of that stuff in my pockets.
 
4 blades ( 3 folders sub 3" , 1 fixed ) , flashlight , 1911 Officers ACP , space pen, spare mag or 2.

no phone , no pda , no other gadgets or gizmos...

usually have a multi-tool , Leatherman or Kershaw near by.
 
Dont mean to hijack but I keep noticing several people mentioning that they carry Space Pens. I am somewhat fammiliar with them but why do you guys like them.
 
It's too much if you never use them, or if they cause a problem while carrying (or reduce the gas mileage of your vehicle).

I carry:

1. One pocket folding knife
2. One micro multi tool (leatherman P4 squirt), attached to keychain
3. One micro flashlight (streamlight), attached to keychain
4. Keys
5. Wallet with contents
6. Cell phone / PDA in holster
7. Watch on wrist
8. (usually) Pistol in holster

As you can see, 2, 3, & 4 are one unit, so that's really only 5 items.

That's it. I use the Leatherman fairly regularly, and the pocket knife and flashlight quite often.

Right front pocket: SiX rounds. (Either speedloader or speed strip)
Left front pocket: Keys.
Right back pocket: Wallet.
Left back pocket: Spyderco folder.
Right hip: Wheelgun.
Done.
You guys carry a lot of crap.
 
steveracer above is a buddy of mine, and as far as I'm aware, one of the fittest people I know. He runs a lot, and a long way, and he does it fast. His EDC gear includes a lot more than pocket knicknacks. He EDC's "fitness," which is worth a lot when you need it. He's fast. Good stuff.

I'm easy. Wallet, keys, phone, Taurus 85, Kershaw something-or-other. If I need more, then it's my own fault, and I should run faster. steveracer would have told me that free of charge. Carry the right gear, but be ready to get out if you're capable, and if ya can, be capable.
 
i EDC a small AUS8 Folder with tanto-tip and serrated blade.

oh... and a brain. And a phone. That´s usually enuff.

They aren't fantastic writing instruments or anything, but they are compact when closed and comfortable to write with open, and they don't have any sharp ends to jab your, well, anything when they are in your pocket. Also, they can survive numerous washes without leaking, which is handy if your have it in your pocket everyday and you are forgetful when doing the laundry. I've had many pens in my car begin to leak due to heat, but the space pen in my glove box is going strong after many years of Texas summers.

There are probably several decent substitutes that do the same thing, it is just one of the options. I have yet to use mine to write upside down or underwater, but if I lost it I'd buy another.

As an added bonus, fantastic customer service. After 5 years carrying mine, it "broke." It was still fully functional as a pen, but there is a brass threaded piece that had some issues. I called to ask what they would charge to fix it and they sent me a new one that day. They told me if it had sentimental value I was free to keep the old broken one but if not they would like it back to see what went wrong. Nice folks to deal with.

as for the mall ninja remark i highly doubt it seeing as how i use almost everything i carry (yes even the golf divit tool) i agree that some of this stuff is redundent but it never interferes with my daily life other than taking up pocket space as for water deeper than 36 inches im a strong swimmer lol
 
I'm currently a college student, so unfortunately carrying a gun is out of the question for me. I always have on my person these though;

-3 1/2 inch folding blade
-lighter (don't smoke)
-chapstick
-phone
-wallet with all the usual stuff in it (and usually a band-aid or two)
-when I remember I also carry a few feet of thin rope. It's useful for any number of things.

Add to that a carry gun and spare mag or two and what more could you need? What I carry certainly suits my needs.
