In an advertisement for a new mini red dot sight, the following was included:

"....is a machined aluminum housing with a multi coated glass lens and a 3 MOA dot".

I understand the principle of "MOA", but explain what a "3 MOA" red dot would indicate and how it would relate to "dot size".

Thnx

I think...........

It means that at a 100 yards I believe that the the dot in the scope would cover 3 moa of the target. So if you had a 5 moa dot it might cover the whole target depending on target size.

At 100 yds, dot will appear approx. 3 inches in diameter on the target. At 50 yds, approx. 1.5". MOA = minute of arc. One degree = one three hundred sixtieth (1/360) of a circle, 1 minute of arc is 1/21600 of the amount of arc in a closed circle. One minute=1/60 of one degree.
