I am considering a red dot for my mini 14. Does anyone have any reccomendations and can someone explain what moa sizing. I know a 4 moa red dot is larger than a 3 moa but how large does the dot look at 50 or 100 yards?
at 100 yards 1 moa is about 1", and at 50 yards it is about 1/2". a red dot certainly is not for precision shooting at distance.
a 1-moa red dot will be tough to see at 100 yards in all but the most sanitary conditions.
my desert eagle has a 6-moa red dot on it, and that is about the maximum size i would want for 100-150 yard shooting. a 4-moa red dot would fit me about right. nikon has/had an adjustable dot size optic available. might be the route to go...?
I had an Ultdradot on my mini 14 tactical, it did the job, but I found it more satisfying shooting open sights for hogs, I love mini 14s, remind me of my beloved M14s I carried 38 years ago.
