Election in Ohio tonight, and watching the meltdown in the sewer

Tonight, there was a special election for a congressional seat in Ohio.

There was a thread on the Dem candidate earlier on this board.

He was an Iraq war vet, who "said" he was pro 2nd Amendment and anti AWB.

Well, tonight the Dem went down in flames.

Dems going down in flames seems to be a frequent theme lately.

But I must confess, I had to visit the sewer and watch the DUmmies go nuts.

It is funny to watch in a sad, pathetic, seizure-prone-mice-with-their-eyes-gouged-out-writhing-frantically-in-their-cage sort of way.

What's really funny is how they are spinning this loss as an actual win, because they lost respectably instead of getting merely trounced.

Where was this outrage over the "extra votes" they kept finding in washington?

Did we gain a seat or retain a seat in congress? How pro-gun is Schmidt?
 
I was born and raised in Ohio. The 1st thing you were taught after you got your drivers licernse was to fold up a $10 bill with a paper clip to your drivers liscense.

At that time money talked, sounds like old times.
 
Here's the text from an Ohio CCW website. Since they both claimed to be pro-Gun, I'd say vote down the Dem anyway, just because of the stance of the national party.

Sort of like an old Russian proverb about Germans........"Yes, he might be a pleasant fellow, but it's still safer to just hang him."

Special Election Alert:

ATTENTION RESIDENTS OF OHIO'S SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT


Ohio's Second Congressional District consists of parts of Hamilton, Warren and Scioto counties and all of Clermont, Brown, and Adams Counties.

Earlier this year, Rob Portman, the Congressman for Ohio's 2nd District resigned to take the position of United States Trade Representative in the Bush Administration.

A special election is scheduled in Southwest and Southern Ohio on August 2nd (TODAY!) to replace the Honorable Mr. Portman. Republican Jean Schmidt and Democrat Paul Hackett are the candidates.

Jean Schmidt is well known to Ohioans For Concealed Carry supporters in Clermont County. She is a former Representative in the Ohio Legislature and co-sponsored CCW legislation while in the House. She earned the endorsement of Ohioans For Concealed Carry when she left the House to run in a primary race against Representative Tom Niehaus for the Republican nomination for the Senate seat held by the retiring Doug White of Manchester. Mrs. Schmidt narrowly lost the race to Mr. Niehaus.

Representative Schmidt personally communicated to OFCC's Collin Rink that she favors the repeal of the Brady Law and "Will Never" support any "Assault Weapons" ban.

While Ohioans For Concealed Carry has historically not endorsed in federal races, we can report that Mrs. Schmidt has received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association. Mrs. Schmidt is a proven supporter of gun rights.

Paul Hackett is an attorney who lives in the Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill. He is formerly a city councilman for the Clermont County City of Milford. Mr. Hackett is a Major in the US Marine Corps Reserve and has served in Iraq. While Councilman Hackett's legislative record on firearms and CCW related issues is non-existant, OFCC can report that Mr. Hackett is a Concealed Handgun Licensee and states that he is a gun rights supporter and NRA member. Mr. Hackett supports the current Brady Law background checks, however his campaign also confirmed that Hackett is opposed to any extension or renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban. Despite his lack of legislative record, Mr. Hackett is known to Cincinnati area shooters as a hunter and gun owner.

In summary, Ohio Gun Owners and concealed carry supporters are lucky to have, if not challenged to decide between, two pro-gun candidates for Congress.

Please, remember to vote on Tuesday, August 2nd for Republican gun-rights supporter Jean Schmidt or Democratic gun owner Paul Hackett.
 
This is just the sort of shift I have been eager to see since the Kerry mess.

A choice between a Democrat who opposes all new gun control and a Republican who supports the repeal of existing gun control.

I predict that Democrats will continue to field solidly pro-gun candidates on a trial basis to see what effect it has on outcomes. When you consider that a normally 70-30 republican district went nearly 50-50 this time, that is pretty encouraging. Hopefully we will see a lot more of this. And hopefully the republicans will counter by seeing their pro-gun stance and raising the ante.
 
Agreed. And we need to be able to cross lines to support a pro-gun dem if the repub is weak on the issue and a general RINO and if the dem in question is not a raving leftist and is believable. For instance, I don't care if Hillary rolls around Ohio chanting the OSU fight song and blasting off rounds with an AK; she's a leftist hack who will say whatever it takes to get elected, including pandering to the bubbas.

I saw this guy on Chris Matthews the other night. He called Bush a chicken hawk. That was not very professional. He also remined me of another politician who went to war and came back anti-war and ran for office. He is a lawyer. He spent 8 months on the Civil side there. He is in the Reserves. The thing that caught my eye was when Chrissy asked him about his CCW permit. He said he just got it when he got back from Iraq. Chrissy asked him how much he carried. He finally came out and said he never had. Chrissy asked him then why did you get the permit. He said--------- Well I AM A LAWYER and some of the clients I deal with can be a problem. Now for some reason those two answeres bugged me. Sounded a little too slick and like a lawyer to me. However if he had been running aganist a RINO who votes for gun control I would have voted for him instead. He also ran a ad with a pro-Bush intro showing a Bush pro-military speech then goes on National TV and calles him a chicken hawk. Also called him a SOB on the campaign trail. Something is fishey with this guy. Oh well he is gone for now.

This is my district. I voted yesterday, but 3 others in my family (who would have voted R) didn't. It was an off off election (August?) and turnout was higher than expected. The race was much closer than expected (largely due to everyone assuming the race would not be close).

The Dems last night were saying that they sent a message , implying that Jean Schmidt better become a moderate (read: pro-military, anti-Bush) or risk losing next time. I think the real message was to the Dems. Back off on gun grabbing and anti-military nonsense and you have a chance to turn the trend around.
 
This was no bellweather....the guy didn't even admit who/what he is...a liberal Democrat who's only 'conservative' value is RKBA (as evidenced by the fact that he has a CCW and nothing else). He is admittedly for paying more taxes, anti-Bush, pro-war (although we shouldn't have gone, but we're doing the right thing, but we can't leave, but we shouldn't be there in the first place).

This guy is John Kerry 30 years younger. Different war, former military anti-war...vote for me because I went....

Good to hear that Schmidt won! (now, how long before the dems start alleging vote fraud?)
 
The problem with electing pro-gun Democrats (besides the fact that you can't tell if they're really pro-gun, or just saying what they think folks want to hear), is that they still have to work within a party where they are the minority. For example, Sen. Larry Lugnuts (D) gets elected on a pro-gun platform. Fine, but now the good senator has to get along with Kennedy, Shumer, Feinswine, Boxer, Murray, the Laut, Harkin, Durbin, Clinton, Kerry, Sheets, and the rest of the ususal suspects. He knows what side his bread is buttered on. Will any of these clowns help him get re-elected if he farts in church and votes pro gun, or even worse, submits pro gun bills? :what:

Will he run with the pack on all the other issues that directly or indirectly affect the 2nd??

Guys, do you really think RKBA and conservative are mutually inclusive? I know several "conservatives" who are big Bush supporters, strong believers in "less is more" in terms of the federal government, strong "law and order" types, who advocate for gun control. You know, the RINO types. At the same time, I know some self-described "Democrats" who believe in abortion rights, anti-Bush and republicans in general, who are strong RKBA advocates, who go so far as to "harass" the Dem. candidates to support RKBA issues. One, a very strong feminist, and friend of my wife's, is fast becoming one of my better shooting buddies, and not just because she is very attractive, and usually picks up a large share of the ammo costs (she married well).

Heck, for that matter, if you caught me on the right day with the right question, you might be surprised by how liberal I can be...while concealing a handgun. :neener:
 
It's a simple fact, which escapes a lot of folks, that you're not just voting for an individual, you are also voting for a party.

When you vote for a Democrat, even the most rabid pro-gun Democrat, you're also voting for, and increasing the power of, the democratic party. A party that makes no bones about wanting total civilian disarmament, the party lead by Boxer, Shumer, Kennedy, Fienstien, and the rest of the anti-gun liberal/left leadership.
 
these kids keep on screaming that they're going to turn to armed violence, with thinly veiled implications all the way up to outright threats, yet nothing ever seems to happen. when are they going to get to it? I'm not saying I want anything like that to happen, but if it has to, the opponents might as well be their ilk.
