Electra Glide in Blue

I think guns like that were called pintos (after the horses, not the cars). I saw a movie called "Purple Hearts" set in Vietnam (but made in 1984) with a 1911 like that.

I've seen 1911's and other semi auto's with a different color slide and frame. That is the 1st revolver I've seen done like that. Looking at it in 2022 I think it is ugly. But I was in 10th grade when the movie came out. Understanding people from that era I can see where they sold a few like that back in the day.

While watching the movie I thought it must have been a custom build just for the movie. But while looking for a photo to share I ran across some information and discovered that for a few years Colt did build some like that.

I remember the movie well, Robert Blake and the Harley dresser.
I did not remember the revolver tho.
Shortly after I came home with my own Elctra glide in blue metal flake with more chrome accessories imaginable.
Thanks for the memory.

You could order Blue/Nickel revolver combinations over the years from different makers, S&W and Colt both did it. Not really done much with SS parts but owners still do it to this day. I've seen lots of Smiths done like that.

I remember the Python, and the movie. Just after VHS rental shops started popping up, I rented that one and another movie I thought was about motorcycles- Crusin' It had nothing to do with motorcycles, despite Pacino on the cover in leather. My dad seriously wondered about me when came home and saw that one...:rofl:

Good grief.... but beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder....Rod

Ain't that the truth? I think they're the cat's meow. I've never owned one, but would like to.

My wife and I watched the movie not too long ago. Probably on Amazon. I had seen it many years before but remembered nothing at all, except the end.

S&W Pintos are well known.
I have seen Colts with nickel cylinders but not barrels.

The two-tone auto was an IPSC development, nickel or chrome receiver to resist sweat and wear, blue slide for less glare.
I think the reverse two tone started as a nickel or stainless steel slide on a black anodized aluminum receive. At least that is what mine are.

Like the pinto look in semi autos but not really in revolvers. Except the Colt Walker with the unblued cylinder.

I thought the 2 tone job on the Python was something that Hollywood thought up . It looks better on a 1911 , but they are not something that I would buy . Strange movie , but most everything that I have seen Robert Blake in has been strange .

I used to have a pair of Colt Cobras --- one had a nickel frame and barrel with blue cylinder and the other had a blue frame and barrel with nickel cylinder. Both were unfired. I held onto them for a bit, but used them for trade on something I would shoot. I knew I would eventually have to shoot them and that would drive down their value.

I vaguely recall a quote from that movie: "Did you know that me and Alan Ladd are the same height?"

A key element of the movie is Robert Blake's short stature. It is brought up often. In the scene you're referring to he is trying to impress a couple of girls who are taller than him. While trying to research the gun used in the movie I found one source claiming that in real life Robert Blake was 5'2". Alan Ladd was 5'6".

Yeah... I also vaguely recall Blake sidling up to some willowy blonde(s) when he made that comment.:D

Wait wait... I thought the Electra Glide was a kind of Harley? OK but... I've never owned a motorcycle (which is why I'm still alive).
The Electra Glide is a model. I own and ride a 82 FLHP which is a Electra Glide Police model. The blue is the police color. The bikes came in either Birch White Or black. Beem riding for 66 years now am still alive and will continue the sport for as long as i can.
