Just finished watching this movie a bit ago, and I actually know a guy who was one of the extras in it--you can see him on the back cover of the DVD box. Dude with the guitar.

I don't know how many of you have seen "Zero Day"--which I caught myself a while back--but that movie was ever so much better when it came to realism. The boys in ZD stole the guns from one's father and a relative, and directly addressed the issues of obtaining weaponry, pipe bombs, etc. They even talk about how what they're doing is illegal.

Elephant has them get an AR with ammo directly mailed to their house. Nice trick for a pair of high-school kids, let me tell you. There's also a silly scene with them shooting at a pile of wood testing the rifle out immediately after getting it... and, well, I don't know about you folks, but I've never had any combinations of copper+lead+wood cause any sparks. Plus, shooting a rifle--which may have been carbine-length, I'm not remembering right now--in an enclosed space, no hearing/eye protection, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Anybody else seen either of these and have any opinions?

Aside from the acquisition of guns, my main problem with Elephant is the sheeple.

Although it may be true, when one of the shooters backs those two kids into the meat locker, he's definitely within gun grabbing distance.

Yet they let him count down and presumably shoot him.

I hope that never happens to me, but if it does, I hope i'm smart enough to know that if the gun's not pointed at me, it can't kill me. Thus maybe I should redirect it?

Given as to how I was still in high school when the event that inspired these films--Columbine--happened, I figured that if something like that ever occurred at my school, I'd take out my knife and try to fight back instead of dying on my knees if I couldn't run away.

And, yeah, in a situation like that, I'd attempt a gun grab. Of course, if the hypothetical shooter I'm attempting to disarm or disable had a backup pistol like the kid in the movie, then I'd start being very glad that my knowledge of EBRs, even back then, was far above the average high-school kid's, heh.
