Of course, I've had problems finding ANY .22 ammo lately. I still need some Federal bulk for plinking, but I like quality ammo for hunting and will pay for it.

Not sure what's up with Remington importing Eley Match ammo, but the hardware store in a local small town has had some on the shelves for a bit. It ain't selling too fast at 19.95 a box, but I know it's good stuff. I've had the 10/22 sighted in for RWS R50 since I mounted a scope on it. Need the scope, my eyes are getting real sucky. Anyway, I picked up one box of 50 of that Eley today and came home to try it. Now, the RWS has about 2" of drop at 50 sighted in for 25. This is nothing odd. It shot 1" groups at 50 yards from the bench. The Eley shoots to POA at 25 AND 50, cool! And, to top that off, under 1/2" at 25, under 1" at 50 for five shots. At 25 all holes were touching.

Bare in mind this is a 10/22, bone stock except for a Hogue stock which eliminates the barrel band. Normally, with CCI, it shoots about 1.5" at 50. I have a more accurate old Remington bolt gun, but this is PLENTY good 'nuf for squirrel hunting, what I intend it for. It's my woods bumming rifle. I don't mind paying for quality ammo with THIS sort of performance. I won't plink tin cans with it, but for hunting, pretty awesome stuff.

I found a couple of bricks of Wolf Ultra Match for about $7 a box. I think it's either Eley or RWS. Don't remember now. My CZ puts five shots into .2 at 50 yards.

The Sk stuff is outstanding. I've heard of Remington importing Eley ammo, which I would prefer over the Remington-made stuff based on reputation.

$19 / box of how many? I think feeding a stock 10/22 R50 is like feeding someone steak that would be happy with hamburger. I can shoot one hole 10 shot groups at 25yds with either of my bolt guns feeding them SK STD+, RWS TARGET or WOLF MATCH, all under $8 /box of 50.

I own an old Remington bolt gun, tube fed, M512X, that will shoot one hole with RWS Target at 50 yards. I got this rifle 51 years ago for my 9th birthday. It's taken many a squirrel and will likely take more. I like the little 10/22 for a light, handy, woods gun, though, and it's a semi auto which I like since I shoot lefty and find it easier to shoot the auto than work a bolt fast in the field. If the ammo works to shrink the groups for that extra confidence on a 50 yard squirrel, I mean, it ain't like there's a law that I can't shoot it in a 10/22 if it works better, right? Am I breaking some law? 1" groups at 50 yards is overkill for squirrel hunting, but I'll take overkill in accuracy, myself, considering it's only 20 bucks and this box will last me a while.

I have a partial box of RWS target I bought 20 years back. I bought it, the R50, and some Eley match for cheater ammo at our local club shoots. Using the Remington, I won several matches. Were no fancy target guns, mostly Marlins and such, just a club shoot. I wanted an edge. But, they do work for hunting, too. And, you know, I haven't seen any other ammo on the selves of any LGS in 7 months! Tell me where all this RWS Target is being sold. They don't import it to Texas anymore. If they do, they must only sell it in Amarillo, 12 hour drive minimum. I found this Eley on the shelf of my local hardware store. I guess all the locals have YOUR attitude about shooting the stuff in their plinkers. Good for me, it's good stuff in the 10/22.

Anyway, my wife's squirrel dumplin's is better than hamburger OR a steak.

Oh, BTW, I was so desperate for plinker ammo I wiped out that hardware store of their stash of .22 Remington SHORT. It shoots in my old Remmy and my Rossi revolver well enough for plinking. I have about 700 rounds of it left. It's no longer available, they haven't been able to get any more. I'm hoping this ammo shortage will lt up soon so I can buy my Federal bulk pack for killin' tin cans again.

I was told the Wolf and Eley comes from the same factory in Germany. The Wolf is great ammo. I buy when ever I can find it.

MC, I really don't care what you feed your 10/22, feed it what you shoot best.:)
My only thought after owning stock, lightly modified and full target 10/22's is there are diminishing returns in feeding them REAL GOOD ammo. Most of mine liked std velocity ammo, particularly Fed 719 HV MATCH which goes for around $4.50/box of 50 ( pre Dec. pricing ). Shoot straight...shoot often.

I'll look for it, maybe after the 2014 elections if things get more normal. There's lots of match grade ammo I haven't tried and can't at the moment since it isn't available. I'm normally happy with plain old CCI mini mag for squirrel hunting, but this box of Eley was on the shelf and after trying the RWS out when I mounted the scope, I figured I'd give it a try. It may be 4 times the price of Federal's Match Standard velocity, but then, you can't buy what isn't there. And, well, I like the performance.

Eley is a British company and is manufactured in England. RWS is German. They make great percussion caps, too, though I haven't seen any in a while. Nothing wrong with American made percussion caps now days, but when I got into percussion revolvers 40 years ago, RWS and Fiocchi (Italian) made the hottest caps.

I'm seeing more centerfire on ammo shelves lately. I'm just hoping it isn't long before I start seeing rim fire. Hell, I can't even find any .22 mag anymore! About the only rimfire I see other than the Eley is .17HMR.

Wolf is made in Germany by Nammo/Lapua. And it is good ammo.
