The old Intermountain Arms store in Meridian, ID had a huge wall with nothing but mounts of Elmer Keith's trophies, including polar bears and cape buffalo. It was very impressive. I wonder what happened to them when the store shut down.

They were on loan and went back to Ted Keith and his family when Intermountain Sports closed. Many of them were used in Cabelas' Keith Exhibition at the store. I remember those mounts from Intermountain Sports and then enjoyed seeing many of them again in the Keith Exhibition. Some mighty nice trophies.

Man, I'm in the middle of reading Hell I Was There right now and would probably do some unspeakable things to land one of those rifles. Maybe they'll go for less cause Elmer was more known for his handgun work?

Dang, I'd love to see the ULTIMATE one then! :) Maybe if they auctioned the JM Davis museum. Or Mike Dillon's collection?

I guess this is what they mean what they talk about "investment guns." Not sure I'd be selling any of them if I were an heir. And not because I'm interested in any... But because they'll only be climbing in value, right?

That m70 in 375h&h is beyond gorgeous. That is probably the finest wood I have ever seen.

Col. Rex Applegate once told me he owned some of Elmer Keith's guns in his collection. He collected guns that belonged to famous shooters. I once sold him an Ed McGivern revolver inscribed with Ed's speed record on it. I also had some Myers leather products that belonged to McGivern that I passed on to Rex. i wonder what became of that collection after Rexs' passing?

Sam, I think the Colt factory auction a couple years ago would be ultimate.

His estate sold some things to specific people. Otherwise what was left was auctioned. I still have the auction catalog. I'll have to look, but I don't remember any S.D, Myers leather being sold in individual lots as such. I believe the McGivern revolver you mentioned was auctioned.

Also about the Cabelas display. I've seen it a couple of times and was very impressed by the work John Taffin did there. John says that the Boise Cabelas Manager no longer wants anything left of the display and plans to do away with the little museum. Damn shame! I would hope that the likeness of Elmer and all the stuff he had around him end up in another display somewhere!!

About an hours drive from me as well. I think that I want to go and see the stuff in person. Who knows I might end up with something in the end.

I want the revolver that he shot the 600 yard mulie with. I don't believe it, but Hell, I wasn't there. (Pun intended.)

    I'll never understand

why one would pay an exorbitant price for a gun owned by a "famous" person. It's still just a gun. If the papers are lost it will be worth exactly what any other model like it sells for.
