Elvis' big bang theory
02/26/2003
By ALAN PEPPARD / The Dallas Morning News
Fed up with reality TV? Perhaps you should buy Elvis Presley's 9 mm Beretta pistol that he nicknamed "the remote control."
Joe Esposito, co-best man at his wedding, reports that Elvis nicknamed the gun after he used it to blast apart a TV set while watching Robert Goulet sing in a manner offensive to the King.
Tom Keilman & Son Auctioneers Inc. is selling the gun as well as a single-action Colt .45 that belonged to John Wayne at its 26th annual auction in Pflugerville in Central Texas. In all, about 1,500 items will go on the block at the March 7-9 auction. Check for details at www.tk-auctioneers.com.
Just like the tail of Elvis' private jets, the grip of the little pistol is emblazoned in gold with a lightning bolt and the letters "TCB," Elvis' coat of arms meaning "Takin' Care of Business."
