Can someone give me the email address for the Smith and Wesson Forum? I want to know why they exclude Yahoo Email from the Forum.

They have a policy that doesn't allow free email addresses. I guess they have a reason like being able to track troublemakers or something. I registered several years ago with a HotMail account so it must be something fairly recent.

Here's a tip. They seem to only block Yahoo and HotMail. Go to TheFreeSite.com and set up an account. The S&W Forum system doesn't block that one.

It's because something like 99% of the spam that tries to make it to the forum comes from free email accounts. Para doesn't like spam.

Doesn't accept mediacom cable addresses either (mchsi.com). I had to use my work email. It's a good forum, but the owner doesn't seem too technically savvy, he just blocks whole ISP's based on one individual rather than getting more specific as we've had to do with other boards (of course some of that could be the software running the site too, but his explaination leads more toward the technically savvy response).

That address is, from what I have heard, a very unique case. There is one very unscrupulous dealer who tried to break up deals, reneged on deals, flipped guns hourly on the forum, etc., who used that account. After being banned, he kept opening new fake accounts with that address. The only way to stop it was that approach.

The policy of disallowing registration with a free email account works very well to keep away spam, trollers, and agitators. It's a gun forum, and subject to all the ills that go with having that hobby in our current political culture.

Black knight, just go and change your user email to another one - you don't have to receive email from users there on your government email - once you are registered you can switch your user email to anything you want, including gmail, etc.

Yes, but that is not the only way to stop that approach. It is fairly easy to track the IP address of a forum member and especially with a large ISP like Mediacom, they have a more local range of IP addresses so you can just close up the range of IP addresses used by his local setup and not close out EVERYONE who is on mediacom. We've done that on my four wheel drive club's forum, but then we do have one of the heads of the army's RDEC computer group in the club ;)
