mini-14's are not as accurate as some of us would like, yes? well the problen is the skinny barrel, heats up too fast, and too prone to vibration pattern disruption. mabey if we all sent ruger a crap-load of e-mails they might change this. just think how cool it would be to have a 2moa mini-14 that is hard to heat up:rolleyes: im sending mine soon
 
Mini 14's are what they are, and priced accordingly.

They do exactly what they are advertised to do.

How much would you pay for this 2MOA hard to overheat Mini 14?
 
I know of a secret trick to not heat up any gun.

A mini-14 is what it is. Buy it for shooting varmints from the truck on the ranch or plinking. It's not a range gun.
 
id probably pay $550

i know what the mini is and i know what its for, but i like the m-14 and the mini-14 doesnt live up to what it is supposed to be, a mini m-14. and have you realized that the mini-14 is the ONLY .223 semi auto with a straight wood stock on the makret, that is what i like. i also like to not have to aim down when i shoot, or see my gun smoking.

the mini-14 is my favorite gun and i am going to buy one within the year, but i wish that they wouldnt make the barrel so skimpy. it wouldnt cots them a damn dime to make their barrels a little fatter.

Ruger doesn't publish any of their office or staff e-mail addresses so you would have to either write letters or call them. And calling can get expensive as Ruger does not publish any toll-free numbers on their website.

My Mini-14 is capable of 1 to 1-1/2" groups at 50 yards with the factory iron sights as long as I don't shoot more that one round every 5 seconds or so. I spent about $75 in mods to get it that way but too many rounds too quick will get me groups in the minute-of-softball size. :D

As mentioned, the Mini was never intended to be a super-accurate rifle. Its niche is controlling varmints or predators of either the 4-legged or 2-legged types that wander onto your property. For that, it does an excellent job.
 
forget what i said earlier. the mini-14 should be the gun you take to the range, and it shouldnt be a truck gun, that is what an sks is for. would you leave your m-1a in your pick-up, or take it to the range and shoot the hell out of it. i admit this was a pretty stupid post, but i just cant help dreaming about a mini-14 with an ar-15 sized barrel.
 
From what I've been reading there are some simple & inexpensive fixes to improve Mini-14 accuracy: Shorten bbl length 1"-2" (bbl harmonics), attach a muzzle brake or flash hider (again, bbl harmonics), ensure the gas block screws are properly torqued, stock bedding, add a bbl stabilizer. Thousands of emails have been sent, it doesn't do anything. Ruger sells the Mini as it is to do what it was designed for. Although it wouldn't hurt them to put a little heavier barrel on it, they're not going to. They sell the hell out of them as is. One thing that does piss me off about Ruger is the "no honest man needs more than a 10 round magazine" bit. I'm not selling my Mini because of it, I just don't like the attitude. I'm an honest man and I WANT factory 20's. It is true you can do the mods shown over at perfectunion.com, I have done some of them myself.

I don't know if you like the looks of them, but the idea is great. I don't care for the aesthetics myself. Check out. www.accustrut.com

No, it's not a stupid post, but I think most of us have just given up on the Mini ever being anything more than it is now.

And, the size of the barrel isn't the only thing. I have a Bushmaster 16 inch "pencil barrel" on an AR and it doesn't have any of the problems my mini does, even though the barrels are the same size. The thing (out of the box) is just a 3-4 MOA rifle and that's all it's gonna be for that price.

I just don't know if I'd pay close to $600 for a mini even if all the issues were fixed unless I was in California and that was all I could have.
 
Then gat an AR

You have two choices; Get a mini-14, then send it to any number of speciality shops to have it "tuned". Or get an AR-15, it'll do what you want right out of the box! If it don't there's a lot of stuff you can put on an AR that will make it a lot better. It's a "platform" to customize to whatever configuration you want!

This is my bushy xm15 e2s. It has a jewel trigger, dpms gas block to eliminate the front sight, front sling swivel, and a cheapy BSA scope. Next addition will be a full floating forend and a better scope. This stock 1-8 barrel will work with up to a 69 grain match nosler bullets, but I want a DPMS 1-7 barrel so I can shoot the 75 grainers. It will hold 1 inch groups with Hornady 60 grain v-max bullets, slightly under 2 inches @ 200 yds.

Oh, the pistols are a SA 45 and a glock 22 with it's KKM precision 357 sig barrel.
