Getting an encore stainless frame next week from Budsgunshop unless I can find a better deal some where else.
Still trying to decide on which caliber first, but was I was curious the best way to carry a encore pistol with say a 12" barrel?
Best place to buy encore barrels and accessories? Thank in advance.

Getting responses for Thompsons is difficult. I'm surprised more people don't want them. They are great guns. My buddy had one and he just ordered the barrel he wanted through his gun dealer. And wow! It was accurate!

IMO, a basic revolver cartridge is a must for the Encore. Even if you move up to the big stuff down the road, having a basic cartridge like the .44 Rem. Mag. is great for practice/plinking/handloading.

I load up some soft .44 loads (240 grain lead @ 900 fps) and really enjoy plinking with those. (low recoil, low noise practice)

You could use .44 Special cowboy loads too, then full power magnums for hunting.

These guys built my custom Encore 9" .357 Magnum barrel (sweet):

MGM was having a great sale on their short barrel blanks. Chambered to order $200. Not sure what if any they have left. If I wasn't saving for my next OTT I would have picked up several.

Don't go 12" barrels unless with pistol calibers. If you are shooting a rifle caliber, get 15" barrels.

Use fast-burning powders in your reloads.

Yes, they are accurate. They come with 1" @ 100 yards guaranteed.

Forget buying the factory barrels...buy the Fox Ridge Custom Shop barrels.

:) Encore...the best!

Next, you need a G2 Contender. I have hunted A LOT with T/Cs! I love them!

Doc why would I need to get a G2 next if I am getting an encore frame?

I use my contender (original model) in a 14".223 for the usual game, and have a 7TCU 14" for deer, and that sized animal, and even bear at up to 100 yds (maybe 150). Zero'd to 200.
I also have a 14" Match .22.
The other models are so you can go into full rifle rounds. Of course the G2,a nd Encore will handle the dimiunitive .22, but the whoe idea of the second generation barrels, is to load rifle rounds like 308 or 7mm/08.
Depends on bench resting and how you can handle.
these are incredible guns, very very accurate, at a moderate cost.
I carry mine in a shoulder holster, but would not mind it on a hip holster, or low ride, since tightly held, it wold ride fine with the movement of the leg.
A well mounted shoulder rig, keeps it out of the brush and mud, makes for a nice cross-draw, and rides well for the long push.
Protects the scope that way too.
Uncle Mikes made mine, but a leather one would carry close to the body.

Well my Encore from the first gun shop, turned into an Encore Hunter from a different source. Should be here next week, now just need to decide which barrel first.

I get about 2100 fps from my 12" .30-30 contender using a 150 Nosler ballistic tip and have taken 5 deer with it so far out to 90 yards I shot a spike at this past season. The Encore comes in .308 and I'd think a 12" barrel would work fine with that caliber. It's a good short barrel caliber. That's the one I'd get. Anything over 12" is just too much like a rifle with the stock cut off to suit me. The 12" still feels like I'm shooting a handgun. I carry mine in an Uncle Mikes shoulder rig, can even carry it under my hunting coat concealed when I walk in to the store for a coffee after a morning on the stand. :D

I don't know if it's offered, but .358 Winchester would be an awesome caliber out of a 12" gun, too. Really, I've found anything much over 100 yards from a field rest and I'm not steady enough. The .30-30 is good for 200 yards, but usually I'm not good for 200 yards. I don't get many shots on my place over 60 yards anyway. That 90 yard shot was an exception. I did hit him hard right in the shoulder. <pat on back>:D He was a small spike, too, not a real large target.

BTW, I shoot the hunter barrel with the built in compensator. The recoil is very soft, but don't hunt out of box blinds without hearing protections. Don't ask....ouch....WHAT???? WHAZZAT? Riiiiinnnnggggggggg.

The Contender and G2 have a better trigger than the Encore. Also, until this year, the Encore did not have a .22LR barrel. Now it does, and it looks freaky!

The Contender still holds the world 500 yard pistol accuracy record 3/4" X 3.5" at 500 yards.

Personally, I like both, and own both. One of my favorite Encore pistol barrels is the .270 Win...nothing say good morning like the crack of a .270 in a 15" ported barrel. Even with earphones, you won't dose off. :) Also, the .444 Marlin and .45-70 Gov't are tremendous. Whatever you buy in T/C barrels, they are all assured by the warranty to maintain MOA groups.

I have a 7mm TCU, 10" barrel, for my contender, also. It's cool. Have thought about scoping it for hunting. I have a TC IHMSA sight on it (calibrated elevation knob) and shot some IHMSA with it, but don't anymore and the barrel just sits. Seems like it'd be as good a hunting caliber as the .30-30 and the cases are a lot more compact and efficient. But, there's not a thing wrong with the .30-30, either.

I have a 7 TCU in a 14" plain barrel with a2 power scope, with a black dot reticle. Came with the barrel, and I have never thought to change it.
I carry in an uncle mikes, and it works just great. Like above, I can drape a jacket over it, and it hides it just fine.

You guys have the 7 TCU?!?!?!?! Well, I just went green with envy.

:) Some day, some day.

Edit: Taurus 617 CCW...thanks for the link...awesome prices!

I have thought of trading the 7 TCU, but it's kinda cool shooting a caliber that I have to make brass for. LOL I'm probably going to scope it eventually. It's fun shooting at small targets at 200 yards and hitting them with irons, though. Even out of the 10 inch barrel, it is sufficient for deer hunting, similar ballistics to the .30-30 and the rounds are rather cute, small. LOL I'd thought about getting a .45-70 just for the cannon that it is, but I can live without it I guess, for now. Neat thing about the .45-70 is I could hunt with cast bullets, which is kinda cool. I have a 340 grain mold in .45-70 already. All I'd need is dies and I'd be good to go. I got that mold to size down to .452 for .45 colt, but that didn't work out so well, too much bullet for the colt. I can push it a little over 1000 fps before it starts leading. So, I stick with 300 grains or less in the colt.

For my contender, I have a 10" .22LR barrel scoped (terror of the squirrel woods), a 10" .45/.410 (decent for survival scenarios, but really just fun to play with), the 7 TCU, and the 12" scoped .30-30. A .45-70 would round out the collection pretty well, I think, give me a BIG boomer caliber, but there ain't much I hunt with the Contender that can't be killed just as dead with the .30-30, so I haven't gotten in a huff for the .45-70 over the years. I probably wouldn't like the thing anyway. The thing kicks enough to hurt with hot .45 colts! Recoil is mild with the TCU and the compensated "hunter" barrel really tames the .30-30 down to .38 special levels, amazing.

Heck, this thread got me to thinkin' about it. I can shoot that 7 TCU well enough out to 100 yards with the irons for hunting. I might just get me a bullet mold in 7mm and some gas checks for squibs to play with. I can set the IHMSA sight for squibs, then move it to the setting for full power loads at will. Would make a decent small game gun to 50 yards with the lead squibs, maybe, and full power Barnes bullets for deer size game all using iron sights. Be pretty versatile, I think. If nothing else, it'd be a fun reloading project. :D

This thread got me thinking about getting a custom shop barrel finally.

They do make a .26 TCU, correct? I haven't looked at the custom calibers in a while.

I want something that I can load hyper-sonic and sub-sonic...hunting and target, and it MUST be a barrel for the Contender...the trigger is so much better than my Encore barrel.

Call me dumb or foolish, but you know the barrel I want for my Encore? A .30-30 Win...heavy weight with muzzle break. Would that be sweet?! But, a mere 10"! The velocity remains 1,800FPS+ out of a 10" barrel!

Well, there's custom barrel #2.
