I am planning on doing an SBR (once I am legal to do so, of course) and I want to use an ACE Adapter to allow for mil spec AR stocks.

ACE Adapter: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/82...5-stock-interface-for-modular-receiver-blocks

My mod will be nearly identical to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-UmnKD4Yhw&feature=plcp

I understand everything aside from the purpose of the end plate. It seems as if the tube could should stay in place without the end plate. Is the end plate needed to stake the castle nut? If not, what purpose does the end plate serve? If it is intended for staking the castle nut, does it serve any other purpose (aside from being a sling attach point)?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Sincerely Yours,

Adam

The end plate and castle nut are what keeps the receiver extension from unscrewing during use.

The endplate is a critical part on an AR-15 because it holds the rear takedown pin spring and detent in place.

The guy is the video you linked is likely using that pricy Noveske endplate for its QD mount point (for a sling).

For me, the sling mount is worthless and I'll be using a very simple end plate. Why is the castle nut not sufficient for keeping the buffer tube in place?
