My Ishapore 2A1 feeds 100% with factory ammo. My reloads, using pulled milsurp bullets, often jam, however only the second round (when loading five), feeding from the left side, jams, all the rest feed fine. I'm not sure if it's the tip popping up or the rim dropping down, but the bolt rides over the rim and the tip jams above and to the right of the chamber. I load to the same overall length as South African surplus.
Anyone else have this problem? Is it the mag or my reloads? How do I fix it?

It's the magazine.

Use a set of smooth-jawed needlenose pliers and start by raising the back of the left feed lip slightly. If you raise it too much, the bolt will bind (and you'll know it). If you get into bolt bind and the problem still happens, you can lower the front left lip slightly and/or curve it in towards the centerline of the magazine.

I personally have not had much luck with the magazine springs in the 2A1. I have two and went to aftermarket magazines to correct feed problems. The new magazines were rough for the first ten rounds or so but then settled in and I have not had a feed issue since.

I bought an Ishapore and the first time out the magazine spring broke. I took a new FAL spring I got from DSA and modified to work in the magazine. I had to shorten it a couple of coils and bend the spring to fit on the follower but it works 100%. Just make sure you function test it. I just loaded up 10 rds and and cycled them to see if I needed to cut another coil. After that the spring was firm just like a new factory spring would be. (I guess they originally took 12 rds but mine only holds ten now. I probably could cut another coil but why bother it might not function as well as it does now.)

It is my observation that Enfield mags tend to made of fairly mild steel, regardless of manufacture, and are easily bent. I seen more than a few No.3s and No.4s (including my own) that needed the feed lips tweaked to feed properly. The only ammo I've had consistent problems with is some of the 150 gr. FMJ ammo such as UMC's. The 150 gr. bullets are smaller and only the tip of the cartridge makes contact with the front feed lip rather than futher down on the 174 gr. ball I've been shooting.

Ishapore mag fix,

I to had feeding issues with my Ishapore ,my mag matchs my rifle so i really did not want to buy another,so what i did to fix it was,i noticed it moved a tiny bit after it was locked in,i placed my hand on the mag and pushed yp as i ran the bolt forward ,all my rounds cyled just fine and extracted also,,next thing i did after determining it was a mag issue, the side of the mag where the clip locks in on near the bottom, there is a spring made of steele down there in a loop, this is to keep forwart tension on the mag and make it fit tightly, take a very small bladed flat screw driver and slip it in that spring loop and bent it out very slightly on both sides, put your mag back in and most likely the first time it will work perfectly if not bend it a little more, then i know it will work just fine,,I had the left side feed problem as all of you all dont bend the feed clips or any of that other stuff or replace your mags this really works..and you get to keep your old matching mags and use them,,jim

Wow, an old post returns!
Biggest problem was the shoulders on the rounds were sometimes a bit off, one of the negatives of just neck-sizing.

I had some problems with the ammo not feeding right, too. I disassembled mine from the stock and notice if i raise up the magazine body up from the rear, it will feed fine. THe notch that the mag catch release seats on is way to high . What i did was just add some material to beef it up ( packing tape works) and so far its working smoothly.
I guess it s the Indian way of manufacturing guns. Theres no quality control but the gun shoots tight groups owing to the .308 inherent accuracy.
