I recently acquired an Enfield no4 mk1. The period correct mag did not feed properly. It seemed obvious that the lips were too far apart as the rounds did not stay captive beneath them. I bent the lips inward in small increments until I got all but the last round to feed properly - the last round pops up prematurely and the point of the bullet binds above the chamber. If I bring the lips closer together I don't think the wide part of the casing will clear.
Any advice on this subject will be appreciated. Pictures of proper magazines , with focus on the top , would be great too. Attached is an image of where I'm at so far.
Addendum -
With this particular rifle should loading generally be done from the top with magazine inserted , or with the mag ejected from the receiver?
