What's one of these worth in 95% with refinished stocks?
It's a 1946 gun........very nice and I'm seriously considering it but I want to make sure I'm not over-paying.

I just payed $300 for a un-messed with fzk #5 with no import marks, and a slight chip in the forestock. Hope it helps, I shopped for a while first. #5's are not too rare anymore, so price has come down.:)
 
The refinish on the stock messed up it's collector value a bit.
I'd say around $300.
But make sure it is not a converted No4 as they are extremely common.
They often shoot fine but they are worth much less.
 
You've been asleep for a while then. SOG has piles. I was only picky; cause I wanted no import marks. Other than that, I could get one just about anytime for $300. I can think of four local gunshops that have several. I collect them, so I can tell when theyre real.:D
 
The crud that SOG has left in are malaysian issues, and are typically pretty crappy looking No5's....and the few they have left are the bottom of the barrel. If you got one that was rust free I'd be very surprised.

There are, as ever, very few good un-messed with No5's and their prices are still up there.

Other than the stuff that came in from Malaysia, none have come in recently and no more are to be found anywhere, the Malaysian guns were the last of the known stores of No5's. A good No5 is worth $300, IMHO.
 
That's the problem with all of our veiws; they are regulated to our very small frame of reference. They might be beat and scarce in Ohio, but theyre pretty nice and plentiful where I'm at in AZ. $300 is not a lot for a #5; I remember when they were $700, if you could find one!

Of course that was back in 1966.

I found it in an Iowa Antique store when I was in college. I had no idea what it was, what it fired or even if it fired. It just looked so damn cool and I had a few bucks in my jeans so I bought it and kept it all these years.

About 15 years ago my Dad found it in the basement rafters where I had stuck it when I got drafted in 1970.

It's back shooting now as part of my Milsurp collection. I guess at $35 it was a good deal, huh?

I am an Enfield collector primarily, and I have friends and fellow collectors all over the world. No5's are not in great abundance in most places. True, some nice ones pop up now and then, but it's not like K98's or even No4's. They're not out there in correct configuration in any great numbers, and what is out there is only in private hands. No one has a surplus of them. Pre-68 imports are even rarer. If you're sitting on a good supply out in AZ, you are very lucky indeed. Start buying them up rapidly because they will triple in price in the next 10 years.
