I've had an old WWI Enfield No1 MkIII that still has the front volley site, but is missing the rear volley sight, and magazine cutoff.

It nagged at me long enough I finally ordered some of the parts to restore it a bit more to it's original glory. Starting with the cutoff.

My main quandry is looking at it, it looks like the screw head would be very hard to reach, and would prevent the bolt from closing. My theory as such is that it has to be screwed in from the bottom, and the stock has to be taken off to do so. Am I correct here?

My other question relates to the rear volley site. Sadly, it's not included on the Numrich diagram, so I can only go by what pictures I can find, but it looks to be part of the safety assembly region. Am I correct in this also?

If not, can someone point me in the right direction BEFORE I take the gun apart and realize I'm wrong? :p

ETA: Sorry if this belongs more in the Gunsmithing forum than the rifle, I wasn't sure, but figured for such relativly minor things, this was the appropriate forum.

I have a book that has your rear sight pictured in it give min to find it

Wow, that was fast...
Ro1911- Thanks, I'll wait. I only ordered the cutoff parts so far, so no big rush for that, figure'd I'd just ask and get it out of the way now for next week when I DO order it.

Bigedp51- That site makes me want so many other Enfields, and I don't know if I love or hate you for pointing me to it. But thanks nevertheless for now. :p It looks like I'll be getting the answers here, but it'll be good to have that one stored for future questions.

Gunnerboy- Thanks! I ordered the parts from Numrich and the screw looks like you describe, so, hopefully as soon as the package gets here I wont have any problems getting it all installed!

Thanks for the help so far folks!

Well, it has the slot for the cut off, and the FRONT volley site, but like I said it's missing the actual parts still. Let me see if I have any pics already uploaded, and if not, I'll get some up this afternoon.

I've already found the parts, actually just got the cut off in today, finished installing it a few minutes ago. Still trying to get pictures up, but my camera battery died, and I can't find the charger. Might go ahead and just use my cell phone.

While doing all of this I also realised I don't have a No1 MkIII...I have what appears to be a MkI...which is about to prompt a post in the research section since I can't find much about them, other than many were converted and given up to 4 asteriks to denote what for.

On that note, the markings on the band are
(Crown Stamp)
B.S.A. 09
1905.
SLE.LE
I.***

Wish I had noticed that before I put the stock back on...but going to try to get a good look at all the markings later tongiht all over the action.

Below is my 1906 Mk.1*** as you can see it started life as a Mk.1* and then upgraded to 22nd April 1914 standards with the addition of the two extra stars**. This consisted of upgraded sights for the new Mk.VII ammunition and other modifications depending if the rifle was land service or a Naval Enfield.
