have my new Savage made warhorse in hand and want to "give it a bath" (sure is fithy under the handguards etc) but i can no longer find the link i had to a complete, illistrated set of instructions on how to get the major parts separated for the cleanup.

got to teh point where i know i need to either take the buttstock off or the forestock (the lower portion that is, the hand guards were nothing), but i can't find the answer to which comes off first on a Mk1* (which is i understand reverse of which comes off first on a Mk2).

also the instructions i DID find show a horizontal screw being removed from just ahead of the buttsocket, to beable to remove the forestock, my rifle appears to have not a screw but a pin in this location. and for the record i've already investigated the possibility that it's a truly gunked up screw, it's not, the head is a solid dome w/ no slot.

as always and especially so now, any and all help is appreciated.

thank you for your time

never mind found it......

about 30 mins after i posted.

actually that is the place that left me wondering what the heck is going on.

found the info i needed, the step there is for a Mk2. i was not aware that on Mk1s all i needed to do was push down on the forestock ahead of the buttsocket.
