I recently acquired a Uberti Walker that the previous owner appears to have filled all the markings and cylinder engravings with a white filler that made them contrast well and pop out. It was probably for show as it didn't look to have ever been fired. A good deal of the filler has come off after shooting and washing it up, but I thought it looked pretty cool and was wondering if anybody knew of anything that might have been used or is made specifically for the purpose of making engravings stand out better. My google searches so far haven't come up with anything. Thanks!

Many folks use greasepaint in marker form to outline serial numbers, proof marks etc. There have been a few threads on here on permanent solutions such as paint pens and polymers etc.

Many years ago, there was a product for filling engraved lines. It came in two colors, one was gold and the other silver. The gold color was actually either a brass or bronze powder. The silver was a silver colored powder. The powder was mixed with a clear liquid similar to a clear nail polish. The colored goo was then rubbed onto the surface you wanted to fill. After a few minutes of drying time, you buffed the area slightly to remove the filler from the high spots, leaving the engraved lines filled. I used it on a couple of my guns and it turned out very well. It lasted for a very long time. I still have some of the filler on one of my weapons that has been carried daily for over thirty years. It isn't much, but you can still see it in several places.

I think the product might have been called "Bronz-it" or "Silver-it". It was probably just a fancy type of nail polish. The filler came in a small bottle with the colored powder already mixed in the solution.

I've used ordinary wax crayon on several guns. It holds up okay in narrow lettering and other small marks, and is dirt cheap to touch up if it falls out or gets dirty.
