Entered the world of Savage, need advice!

So I picked up my first ever Savage rifle today. Its a model 10 Tactical in .308 with a Bell & Carlson Duramaxx stock. Not a bad price either, $460+tax and it came just as shown with Leupold scope mount, B&C stock and knockoff Harris Bipod (Wally World version), it also came with nice strap but its not pictured.
It doesn't have the Accu-Trigger but the guy I bought it from is a gunsmith and had already worked on the trigger and its fine tuned to the point of perfection.

What I really need is a scope, but I'm kinda short of cash right now so I need to find a decent budget scope to get me by until I have enough set aside for a Leupold. The Leupold I'm looking at is the 6-18x40mm VX-II but definitely don't have the money to buy it right away. Any suggestions on a temporary scope that will hopefully not cost more than $150 would be welcome.

"...Leupold scope mount..." That base is known as Redfield bridge base. Good solid base too. It's the same style that went on the 1903A4 sniper rifle. You'll need rings that go on it. For a scope, ask the smithy what he has.

The 6X18 would be a lot of scope for that gun. I'm with Hot Brass on this one...check into the Bushnell Elite series. I have used them for years and they are a stout little bunch of scopes. If you just have to spend a lot on your scope, get the 4200 series...

Pros: Holds zero, repeatable adjustments, good light transmission, good color rendition, clear optics, decent eye relief, a good solid scope for the price.

Cons: The edges of the image appear a little blurred at the higher powers, and the point of impact shifted slightly (about a half inch @ 100yds) when going from 4X to 12X. To be fair however, I have seen more expensive scopes with the same issues.

Thanks for the advice so far, I like the sound of the Bushnell Elite as an option. The 10x40 looks nice and isn't too expensive, I agree I probably don't need an extremely powerful scope for this rifle. The only range I go to is fairly short anyway so a 10x40 might be sufficient.

I would go with the 10x40 if I were you. I am going for a super sniper myself, I cannot wait.... the beatiful brown truck is supposed to deliver it today.

Thats a nice looking rifle, and a great price considering the mount, stock, and bipod. I would suggest warne rings, tough, very tough, and they wont snap like many other rings do, they will bend. But I doubt that .308 Recoil would do that anyway..... Great rifle.... Congratulations!!
