I recently bought a Savage Model 11 FHNS in 7mm WSM, NIB, at a very good price. I've found a good 162gr. load, and the barrel has settled in nicely. But the tupperware stock didn't allow for a good trigger pull, and the "cheek weld" was a "jawbone weld."

So I put a Bell & Carlson Tactical A2 stock on the gun, and now I need to reconsider the scope. Originally, I put a Leupold 3-9x40 in a set of Talley one-piece mounts on it. But now that the gun is settled in, I've fitted it with a Harris bipod, and I'm thinking about shooting longer range paper and maybe farm country varmints. I already have plinking rifles, and 5 rifles to carry for deer and mid-size game.

At almost 66y.o., my eyes don't do focus like they used to, so I'm considering a new scope for the rifle. I am very partial to Leupold, and have 3-9x40's on my .257 bob and .270, and a 2-7 on my Hornet carbine. Never had a problem with any of them, and the oldest is 25 years old now.

I had considered a Leupold 6.5-18, but am getting serious about a 4.5-14x40 VX III CDS. I don't want to spend more than $5-600 on a scope for this gun.

Anyone have other ideas as far as decent mid-priced glass, or different magnification? All opinions are welcome.

I have had rill good luck BSA platinum 6+4+44 ether a target or the mil dot there are on sale at NATCHEZ shooting supply for around 70.00 They have the target turrets they are 1/8 MOR The target is a very fine cross hair with a 1/4 mil dot very good target scope. For hunting the mil dot is a scope for hunting..GOOD SHOOTING

For the set-up I'd seriously consider a Bushnell Elite 4~16x40 (or 50 if the height will work with your cheek weld?). You can get their BDC or mil-dot if you prefer.

The other option, if it were me, would be a Nikon with their BDC reticle and I'd run their ballistics program to match your ammo.

I'm not a fan of dialing in the trajectory compensation when I can hold a dot or a ring once I laze the distance. But we all have different shooting styles.
