Today I was in one of my local gunshops and found an Enterprise STG58C. Overall condition "looked" good. Price was under $450. I think I could get a better deal though if I were to get serious and negociate.

Problem: The rifle was loose between the upper and lower receivers. It appeared to be pivoting on the front hinge pin. The movement at the rear of the receiver was approximately 1mm in each direction.

I know very little about these rifles and would like to know if:

1. this problem can be cured ? Very important as the front and rear sights are on the the upper and lower receivers respectivley.

2. Is this a good price range on this model?

26 views and no replies.......I don't know whether to be surprised or embarrassed. Were the questions that stupid or wording bad? I've only just taken an interest in FAL type rifles and can honestly say I don't know squat. This one interest me because it doesn't have the stamped receiver like the Century rifles I've looked at.

Some FAL's are somewhat loose right in between the hinge pin. The price is not too bad and Entreprise stands behind their product with a lifetime guarantee. Try lowballing the dealer.

Also, check out the FALfiles @ http://www.falfiles.com/forums, lotsa FAL addicts over there. :D

Hope that helps.

I hear ya bud, it doesn't surprise me, every forum/site have it's own set of crowds just like in real life, there are places where we fit right at home and there are places that we don't.

I'm not bothered by it, I have better things to do offline and online. Most of the time, I only read the posts. I'd rather let the experts talk and I listen.

Silence is golden.

Cheer up bud.

FAL...

I own a DSA STG 58A. The upper and lower lock up tight. I've never handled an Enterprise receiver, or a loose FAL receiver.

IF you buy it (and not for that price, either), I highly recommend having it checked out by a good FAL qualified smith.

Thanks for the replies. I know I can count on THR folks for help. I'll also check out the FAL forum and see if I can find out more. I'm going to a Gunshow in Cullman this Saturday and want to be prepared in case I find a FAL type rifle I can make a deal on.

Usually can find quite a few FALFILES members with FALS listed for sale in the Marketplace on the FALFILES board. Some of the Enterprise receivers got a real bad rep for being out of spec; some were apparently OK. Surf over there and check out the Questions and Answers thread.

I've never run across a loose fitting FAL. My DSA upper StG58 fits so tight that not even light leaks through it.

I might have to take a pass on one that rattled like that one sounds like it does.

Rabbit.

DV, If you are going to look for a FAL type rifle this weekend, If possible buy one that is made by Imbel on an Imbel receiver.

I've handled a number of loose fitting FAL's and it is safe to say that most Entreprise receiver/builds are somewhat loose. It could be an Entreprise problem. To be on the safe side, buy an Imbel or the ones made by DSA.

I've really been checking into this and still don't knowwhat I'll do. I don't think I'll be buying the Entreprise FAL because of the possible complications. I'm not knowledgeable enough for a problem rifle. I'm still looking and considering some Cetme rifles at a gunshop in Huntsville. He also has a Century R1A1 FAL that caught my eye. I'll look for deals at the gunshow but will probably wait to make my decision...... unless a really great deal comes along.

I went back by the gunshop with the Entreprise FAL today and I'm sure now that I will pass on it. Lokking as close as I could without taking the rifle apart I'm pretty much convinced that the upper is wallowed out at the hinge pin. Might be fixable but I think I can find one in better shape for the same money.

Is there anyone in your area

That can build one for you? I don't know much about it but you can still find STG58 parts kits around and maybe shop around for a reciever.

I've heard some say that a mechanically inclined person can put em together and I've heard others say that it is best left to the pro's. Maybe get one of them AGI videos and that would be enough. I dunno. It might pay to look into it.

Personally, If I had the extra bucks I would go for a DSA in a heart beat. They are really well made and Uber cool. On their site an STG58 goes for like 800 or more but I have seen dealers that have them for a substantial discount.

Good Luck!

Before becoming a Deputy I was a mechanic for 13 years. I could probably build one if I wanted but I think I prefer to buy a finished product. I may tinker with it after that but I'll start with ready to shoot. Time is such a limited asset these days I'd rather spend free time shooting that constructing.

Good idea, just not for me.
