These knives seem awfully cool, and the few reviews I've found online are quite positive. However, I've only found a handful of folks who own one.

440C, micarta scales, 2.63 blade, 6.25 OAL, come w/ Kydex. Retails about $80

Here's a link: http://worldwideknives.com/EntrekUSA/EN-LYNX.jpg

I'm looking for a really small utility fixed blade, but not a micro-knife. I basically wanted a RAT-2 or RAT-2.5, but since the RAT-3 is the smallest OKC makes, the EnTrek Lynx seemed the closest thing.

I'm intending to go to Afghanistan later this year, either Reserve activation or contract work, and wanted a small fixed-blade EDC knife. I'm not planning to knife-fight in the streets of Herat, so the Lynx seems a good utility knife, but just big enough to be a "leggo" knife if needed.

Any alternate suggestions? If I get a good job offer, I might splurge and get a RAT-3 as well for comparison, and report back on the difference. There are upsides to being single, economically.

I'd be looking for something like a Patchknife...

Worn in a neck-knife sheath. I make my own out of Norwegian bladeblanks from
Atlanta Cutlery or Track of the Wolf, stacked leather washers work well;)
Inexpensive, made out of the same steel that straightrazors are made.

Entrek's are a good bargain , I had one of the larger Entrek's a few years ago. I was mighty impressed and would have been impressed with it at twice the price to be honest.

MV,

I've got a couple of Ray Ennis's knives and can honestly tell you that you could spend more, but you'd have trouble buying better. My old Ronin (similar to the current Survivor) has been used to dig and pry and scrape and cut and just keeps on going.

It's almost frightening that I've met most folks on this thread in-person...

Thanks for the mention of the Mini-Dinka, that's also really close to what I'm looking for.

I think I'll break down and order the Lynx any day now, will report back once I get a chance to mess with it once I get back to the States. Hopefully, it won't be too long before I take it with me out of the States.

Lots of neat little knives out there.

MV,

See if you can't find someone over there forging smaller blades from old Mercedes or Volvo springs and oil quenching them. Could be a good group buy.

@hso:

That's what I was thinking, but so far all the kinves in Tajikistan are:

1) Cheap Chinese ripoffs of Victorinox and generic one-handed tactical folders, at horrendous prices (US$20 or more)

2) Really chintzy pseudo-Persian wall-hangers coated in fake gold

3) One single guy making handmade knives that might be okay, but I'm not the best judge. Couldn't tell much about construction, as he seals up the join between blade and handle with what appears to be a big glob of solder.

Will keep my eye open though, not quite sure where one goes to find good knives. Seen some decent axes though, might find out where those come from.

MV,

Before you order anything let me dig around in the safe back in Ohio. I may have something that you can have that fits the bill.

I'm in DC until 12 Jul, but will be back home for my daughter's wedding. I'll check and get back to you.

Regards,

Jack
