I was at the range today and was asked to help a guy out who was having trouble with his shotgun. He didn't know if it was the shotgun or the ammo.
Anyway, I went to the range table and asked to look at the spent shells and the "dude" shells. The primers were not getting struck consistantly. In one case, he had tried to reuse one shell twice and another 3 times. And they had 2, and 3 dents respectively. The ammo being used was Federal 2 3/4 inche slugs in the yellow/green box.
The shotgun turned out to be a gift from his girl friend and she paid $200 bucks for it at GI Joes. I recommended they take it back to GI Joes and trade it for a Remington 870 HD + 130 bucks. I recommended that if the 870 breaks, parts are easy to find. But this "Escort" shotgun which wasn't going bang for every pull of the trigger, would cost more than than to get working...
