THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL
At Rocky Mountain 3 Gun this year, they had a raffle during the shooter's BBQ. The money was designated to go to the junior program. Feeling magnanimous, I tossed $40 in the pot.

After an excellent bbq beef brisket dinner, they started calling out ticket numbers for the prizes.

I was, frankly, shocked when they called the number of a ticket I was holding.

Even better was the prize: a set of custom-fitted ESP Elite Analog ear plugs.

After winning the prize, I spoke with Jack, the ESP rep. He sat me down, took a mold of my ears, and had me fill out contact info. He said the turnaround time would be about ten days.

Lo and behold, a few days later, a package shows up in the mail containing my new electronic earplugs, two sets of batteries, a foam copy of the earplugs, instructions and a small pouch to store it all in. As an added touch, my name is printed on both plugs.

I finally got a chance to try them out this past weekend at our inaugural Tactical Rimfire match, and have to say that I'm extremely pleased with the product. Sound quality was very good, and they were much more comfortable to wear in the heat than my regular Peltor muffs.

After finishing up our rimfire shooting, we moved on to centerfire. The ESP's worked great for dampening the sound of the .223 rifles both when shooting and when acting as an RO.

So far, I have to say I'm impressed. If you're considering picking up a set of electronic plugs, give the ESP's a look.

But they are $800!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but they work. Well. I'm thinking that they'll be very handy for dove season. Last time I went hunting, I carried a pair of peltors with me, and would only put them on when I thought I'd be shooting. It was a serious hassle. The notion of just popping the plugs in and being done with it has a lot of appeal.

As far as the cost goes, I shoot somewhere between four-eight matches a month, so after awhile the cost of the plugs would be pretty small when compared to the cost of ammo, transportation, etc.
