Does anyone know anything about the quality of this Manufacturer? I saw one on Auction a while ago, looked great. Sold a little above what I was willing to pay.
Essex has been making 1911-pattern pistol frames and slides for many years. They used to be considered fairly low quality (they use castings and not forgings) but their reputation has improved in the last handful of years and I've not heard bad things spoken of them in a while. Perhaps the notion of cast bits instead of forced bits has simply become more acceptable.
I do not think that they've ever made complete pistols, so if you ever see them floating around it's a reasonable bet that somebody else built the pistol out of Essex parts.
