Looks? Pshaw, Hollywood. I do admire the looks of a fine handcrafted rifle, but I've never bought anything based on looks alone. Feel is the most important aspect to me. If it doesn't fit well, it doesn't shoot well.
I own an AK just for the looks. Don't particularly like how it feels or shoots.
I own lots of rifles because of how the feel. I love the ergonomics and lightweight of the AR. Especially my M16A1 clone and those I've customized with shorter stocks and rubber grips. It just feels right when I shoot it.
Historical value? I have a C&R. 80% of my collection has at least some historical value. The Garand, Springfield '03, Kar98 (and M1 Carbine I'll buy next month) rate especially high in that aspect.
Bought my 91/30 for historical reasons. 91/30 PU (non original) because I like WWII Sniper Rifles. I'm looking for a Tokarev for the simple fact that it's a WWII Battle Rifle. Same for the 98k, Garand, M1 Carbine, 1911, Gewehr (Never find that gun) Lee-Enfield, Springfield...
I'm a WWII battle rifle a'holic... only thing limiting me right now is my budget
I chose other, I don't choose my rifle on looks or feel alone. I buy a rifle on it's application, reputation on reliability and accuracy and my opinion on it's user-friendliness.
I bought a Henry Golden Boy 'cause; I wanted another .22, the action is soo smooth, you can never have too many .22's BUT mainly it looks so nice on the wall.
well i like my mosin nagants and my mauser because they have historical value, theyre cheap, cheap to shoot, and good accurate firearms. thats enough reason for me.
My pick was "other" because each of the three have been a major factor in at least one purchase, and ALL three in some. Never has any one been the single reason - looks or feel alone isn't a valid reason for me to buy a rifle. Since I'm not a "Collector" - I shoot my rifles - I don't buy just for historical value.
The M1 Garand has a bit of all three for me - looks good, feels good, has a history. Looks were probably stronger than history for the Persian Mauser, but definitely not for the SKS. I really like the feel of the Swiss K31.
All of the above and economic value...a Mosin 91/30 or Mosin M-44 for $79.00?! An SKS, unissued, all-matching parts' numbers for $159.00?! Why not purchase firearms of this nature?
I bought a Winchester 94 recently, just 'cause I always wanted one, I have no real use for it, but I wanted a gun from the same plant as my fathers guns. Nice to have that same stamp on my gun as me dear old pop's.
I am embarrassed to say but my first firearm was bought primarily on looks
I was looking for a first gun, walked into the local gunshop, saw my Yugo 59/66 SKS on the rack, saw the price tag of $90, and bought it immediately.
It has turned out it was a very wise purchase, and a great gun, but I really only bought it back then for the way it looked. Dang, looking back I was such a newbie, buying a firearm based on how cool it was.
