If you haven't, good for you.
4chan is an image board...it's primary function is to upload and discuss images. Unfortunatly, they have quite a few non-high road boards...so I am reluctant to post the url here. (If you're crafty, you can find it easily...and if you really want to, I can PM you the address of the thread I'm talking about.)
They have a weapons forum, and I find it interesting to check it out every so often.
Did you know that the 1911 was taken out of service because it was inhumane?
That the single action mechanism made it unsafe?
And that the 92F was chosen because it's NEVER had a documented accidental discharge?
Oh and looky here:
The 10mm, special forces use, 1911A1 design, slightly modified with an extra spring since the 10 kicks so hard. ONe of the best guns I've ever used....stick to lower grain factory loads though, hand loads can stress the barrel slightly, though I've not noticed this on mine. The 10 actually has a little more stopping power than the .45...
The m16 is desighned to greviously wound it's targets and make a mess out of their insides.
45 caliber is a deadly shot, chance of surviving a .45 gunshot wound is alot lower than 9mm
(I hope I don't start something with that one.)
There are a few other gems of information in this thread alone...much less in the entire weapons forum.
And we thought the "Silly Garand Misconception" thread was bad...

Here's another note about 4chan...while a lot of the forums there (about half maybe?) are very non-work safe and very non-high road, quite a few of them are good and fun. Specifically the Food forum...I never knew there were so many ways to cook instant noodles. So the place is not totally evil.

Generally the only bad thing about the 'good' forums is the language.
I've never seen NSFW images in the weapons forum.
The place probably isn't as bad as I make it out to be...but it does have some rotten eggs.
I just find reading the weapons forum more fun than Democratic Underground.
Every so often you do see some really neat things too...
There's a thread now about a guy buying a K98, with replies that seem pretty intelligent and clean.
There are also quite a few neat pictures there as well...all kinds of tanks, battleships, soldiers repelling out of helicopters, etc.

Do not go to the general/random forum unless you are prepared for the very worst the internet has to offer. This is not a joke or a challenge.

:D

I make it a point to stay out of Random. =p
The ones I stick to and consider safe are:
Food and cooking
Technology
Weapons
Mecha
There are some others that sound safe, I haven't really been there much.
High resolution is pretty neat if you like huge (And I do mean HUGE) images...but of course, anything that is high-res goes.
Edit:
Just found these beauties:

http://bin.4chan.org/k/src/1147396110923.jpg
The first one may be an airsoft, but I don't think it is.
The second is definatly an active rifle.
And the corresponding thread http://zip.4chan.org/k/res/180001.html
The conversation indicates that the owner of the second one is writing load guides, and also owns an MP44.
Lucky. =(
