Ever heard of a custom rifle with "DEERS" stamped on the barrel?

Hi guys, I've found a rifle that has a GEW 98 Mauser action, chambered in 220 Swift, and has DEERS stamped on the left side of the barrel, also has a really nice wood stock. Can anyone tell me anything about this rifle?

The barrel is made for shooting DEERS which is the plural of DEER.

Seriously when a gunsmith barrels a receiver they place the caliber on the barrel. Many also use a personal marking like their name, business or other marking. My guess is that it could mean just about anything including Art's suggestion. :)

Lol, yeah I figured either small shop build or some redneck built it, and thought it would be funny to put deers on the barrel. Looks like a "Flaig's" rifle, but doesn't say it on the rifle anywhere. Thanks guys.
 
"Deers", of course, is not the plural for "deer". ;) (Unless you're speaking of different types of deer.

There are exceptions of course, like mice. There, the plural is meeses.

Re: the barrel, maybe the fabricator misspelled "Beers".
 
DEERS stands for Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System. It's the folks on a military base that make you sit in line with retirees and crying babies for the better part of a day to get a new ID card. They are specially trained to take bad pictures.

Clearly the firearm in question was originally issued to the DEERS tactical response team, who are charged with maintaining security during the painfully long lines waiting to get a new ID card. The 220 swift is ideal for that mission.

you're lucky to have that rifle.....they are highly sought after as they often carry with them a storied history of defending waiting areas around the world.
