Has anyone ever tried tumbling brass in soda blasting media or with a corn/soda mix?

What about aluminum oxide?

What kind of soda, bicarbonate? It may be too soft and turn to dust after a few hours. Blasting grit only has to hit an object once. Tumbling media hits it over and over and over...

I would think that the aluminum oxide would be far too aggressive and would really damage the brass, but there are many different grades of the stuff, so maybe?

Don't know about the soda.

I could see aluminum oxide being effective and you can get very fine grades. The one I use for blasting motorcycle parts is as fine as talc. however, it might be a bit heavy for your tumbler to cope with on top of the brass - the motor might overheat.

What about aluminum oxide?
I wouldn't want that stuff anywhere near my reloading dies, or gun barrels!

There is a very good reason we use corncob and walnut for tumbling.

It is too soft to harm anything, including the brass cases, but especially the dies & barrels.

Tumbling media is cheap.
Why try to re-invent the wheel?
