I would think that the aluminum oxide would be far too aggressive and would really damage the brass, but there are many different grades of the stuff, so maybe?
I could see aluminum oxide being effective and you can get very fine grades. The one I use for blasting motorcycle parts is as fine as talc. however, it might be a bit heavy for your tumbler to cope with on top of the brass - the motor might overheat.
