Imagine a world where you could wear a sidearm anytime and anywhere you wanted to. A world where doing so would not raise an eyebrow by anyone.
What kind of holster would you wear ? The reason I ask this question is that I am looking for a S&W K-Frame holster and in looking at the various holster websites I realize that not many make this kind of holster. It isn't a police duty holster, it isn't a concealment holster, not a cowboy fast draw rig, not a pocket holster, nothing tactical, not a shoulder rig, not a pocket rig..........................

I would think that if you could wear a gun anytime anywhere............ you would want a holster that was comfortable to wear (not stuff in your pants, not real high on your belt sticking in your armpit......). You would also want it to look good. Nice quality construction. Maybe a little flashy, but not gaudy (nice stitching, maybe a little floral engraving..........). Something that you wouldn't be embarassed to be seen in public with. Maybe a holster fashion statement.

Kind of like buying a pair of shoes.

Ummm, such a holster already exists, Milt Sparks TK#60. Get it in horsey and black for enhanced tacticoolness, besides black goes with everything. I still like the old Roadrunner that I bought when all this was orchard, but you said no ribstickers.

Floral engraving??? Isn't that for purses and elf boots?:p

for everday open carry? i would use the older 1911 el paso saddlery styles that have the flap that goes over the top an has a little button on the side.

covers the weapon from dust an wet to some degree an has that ol fashioned coolness to it

I used to enjoy using this at the range .... and one like it which took redhawk.

This one has in it in the pic the M66 taurus but in fact it should have my M27-2 .... that is what is was made for.

I designed it but had help from a leatherworker buddy to get it all made and stitched.

This would suit me fine for daily open carry .. comfortable, and pleasing to look at.

Milt Sparks NP-1.

It's a hybrid belt/paddle holster. Much support for the pistol's weight, very comfortable. It even works for CCW under a jacket or sweatshirt.

Well, what I DO wear everyday is an Old World thumb break leather hip holster (don't know the model # anymore) that has a considerable butt (the gun's, not mine) forward cant.

It is all scuffed up as if I wore it everyday to carry a Security Six while cutting wood, driving a tractor, or just sit at the computer. :)

444 is looking for a round gun (revolver) holster. The Milt Sparks 200AW wouled be a good start but if you call them and beg the may make you an AZR (arizona ranger) which is much the same with a thumb break.

As a general rule I'd think many police duty holsters would fit this nitche. I had an Uncle Mikes plastic paddle holster with strap for my HK USP .40C and it was comfy and functional.

I'm showing my age here, but I have a holster that I bought new thirty years ago. A Bianchi #1L for Large Single Action. It worked just fine for my Colt's Single Action Army New Frontier. A 5 1/2 inch blue .44 Special, there was a time when it went on with my jeans. I used a 1 1/2 inch Bianchi Ranger belt to hold up my pants, and the holster was very comfortable. I might add, that the jeans and the belt and the holster still fit.

444, I know you said leather but hear me out. I have started wearing Kydex a lot when I am just beating around. I love it in that there is very little that will hurt the holster and it protects the gun nicely. That would be my split wood, pressure wash the deck, mow the yard, cut trees, clear brush holster. Now my go to WalMart out to eat holster would be a Milt Sparks or a Mitch Rosen, I do like the looks of El Paso Saddlery but nothing catchs my eye. I would probably go with a burgendy/wine colored dye. But that is me.

I have several holsters from this firm. He is a former fast draw champ and he only used stock revolvers, no aluminum . 38 barrel on a super six with 22 blacks and the back half of the cylinder reamed out for .38 for bob. He certainly does have it in black and some other very nice designs. The carving in outstanding. Check out the link.

ajacobs, that is a very nice looking holster and just the kind of thing I had in mind. I will check out his webpage.

Billy: I have nothing against Kydex. I own a number of Kydex holsters, but I was looking for something that looked good. Kind of a work of art in leather. Kind of a hoster to wear when you get dressed up. A Sunday go to meetin holster.

I have a whole bag of holsters but for open carry, my favorites are either a belt slide or a military type flap holster.

I think I like the military type holsters better though because I know the gun is secure (it can't fall out or get knocked out while doing stuff) and the gun is completely enclosed, protected from water and debris. They are also more comfortable because they hang looser at the side and not pressed up tight against the body.

You can get a WWII type flap holster for the Military and Police K Frame. I see them in Shotgun News all the time.

Well then that is a whole new kettle of fish. If I was going to do open carry with a holster I was proud to show off it would be a Mitch Rosen. I had a holster for a P229 in sort of a reddish brown. Prettiest thing I had seen in a while. I would actually probably buy a belt to match.
