I am writing a letter to my Universities student government, because they are bringing Micheal Moore to campus, to spark a debate, yet they have planned no one with the opposing view of him. so i have written this letter.

Dear Xavier University SGA,

While reading University news on October 8, I read the article “Filmmaker, author Michael Moore coming to campus.†As I read on, the article states that this event is to spark debate and dialogue. To properly facilitate a debate I feel that both sides of the debate need to be represented. I have heard of no films or speakers being brought in to share the opposing views in the debate with Michael Moore. If things are planned to facilitate the other side of the debate I feel that they need to advertised more. I have heard numerous mentions of Moore coming, but nothing for the other side. If nothing is planned in opposition it can’t really be considered a debate. So I would like to suggest some films and speakers, be brought to give students a better grasp on both sides of the debate. (Films and speakers to be added here, when I compile a better list.) I understand that finding a keynote speaker on short notice can be very difficult, but these films are very accessible.

-------------------------------
letter is not complete just a rough draft
Films i was thinking: Innocence Betrayed (JPFO)
Speakers: John Lott.
what other films and speakers should i suggest.

I suspect that the mere mention of John Lott being on the same platform, or a showing of Innocents Betrayed will cause that quivering tub of jelly to run like ....well, I can't think of anything fitting, but you get the drift.

Good Luck to you - truly - in getting an opposing view at the program.

With that said keep on trying but don't look for results. I doubt if your University actually wants a debate. They use the term because it implies fairness and looks good. It's politically correct. BUT they don't really want a debate. What they really want is to provide only one side of the issue - their side. By doing that they assure that they will have the greatest influence possible on the young minds present at the program.

You might point that out to them after they come back with - no there will be no opposing viewpoint - for what ever silly reason they give.

The school paper may even publish your note hoping you will be excoriated by the liberal crowd.

At most universities the anti's rule. I don't see that changing much in the near future unless student's - much like you are doing - become more vocal and active at their universities.

They could be planning a "debate" to address which methods of "ridding the world of guns" would be most "effective." :barf: Twits.
