I've been shopping for AR parts and everything I try to buy is on backorder. I ended up spending an extra $10 for a BUIS because all the cheaper sites were out of stock and the sites were on back order. A friend has been running into the same problem. He has to wait weeks for his RRA upper. Is there something going on that I don't know about, some sort of SHTF situation where people are stockpiling EBRs? Or is everyone afraid the Dems are going to take over congress and reinstate the AWB (remember, Bush said he'd sign it)? Or did everyone just get a wild hair to buy an AR at the exact same time?
 
There are a lot of people in California that are now building AR-15s, so my guess would be that us Californians could be partially to blame.
 
What exactly are you looking for? RRA has been backordered on upper receivers since last year. RRA is pretty popular among the general AR builders.

There are custom makers for uppers that are better than RRA like CMMG, Adco, and Bravo Company.

As far as parts, try Adco and Eagle Firearms. They tend to have most of the various accessories and parts in-stock.
 
The estimate is about 10,000 lowers bought in CA in the past several months. Now, not everyone is building them up yet, until we find out what the DOJ will do. But it probably is impacting the AR market somewhat.
 
You had to spend an extra $10, boo hoo. It's amazing firearms dealers can even stay in business with some customers wanting to pay in straw.
 
Seriously, dont be a cheap scate. Just because joe shmoe on [email protected] has them for 10 bux cheaper doesnt mean you should buy from him. I personally will buy at a gun shop if i know they have it, even if its more because its the American thing to do. Especially living in jersey gun shops are holding on for there dear lives. while libs turn the heat up on the flame thrower. Just a few weeks ago a gun shop near me had to close down and it really made me upset. So next time Joe shmoe has it on his website for rock bottom prices think of all the gun shops that already have it in stock waiting for you to take it home. Just my 2 cents
 
Being part of the Cali AR craze, I just built up four. Mostly on RRA uppers and LPK's. Sorry. :p

If they can't compete in a free market economy, then they should find another hobby. Paying extra to support someone else is the very definition of socialism. Boo hoo.
 
Think about it. People that would have a AK to use are now buying ARs b/c of the 7.62x39mm problem. (That's why I'm saving up for one).

Yes, the AWB is a problem. The Republicans f'd up, and now are paying the price. They might be out.

Also, Katrina taught many gun owners that an SHTF situation could likely result in a good tac rifle being a good thing to have.

I've seen a few guys in the local gun shops looking at ARs, (more than usual), and I'm betting in order to save money a lot of guys are buying 'em in parts to save money. (That's what I'm a doin')

I have to admit that was one of the things that got me off my butt and motivated me to get an AR.

Heh. Can you spell "supply and demand?" I knew you could. Your demand was greater than the available supply, and you paid a premium because of it.

Free market != "all the things I want should be cheaply and immediately available."

Free market = "I will buy what I want, when I want, from whomever can supply it." If I supplier A can't meet my demand, I take my dollars elsewhere and he loses out. That's how the market self-corrects.

I'd have to pay through the nose for an Xbox 360 right now, but I don't attribute the fact to trends towards socialism or the inability of Microsoft to "compete."

My local dealer can't find properly-made AK underfolder receivers right now, and he's been trying for weeks.
 
Hey, I have a solution and it doesn't involve berating you or anything else of the negative sort. There is this gun dealer in California that is currently stocking all sorts of AR-15 parts and if you are not in California, he will still ship it to you for a great price! Go check him out.

That is where I get all of my AR goodies from. And my guess is the lower industry was already backed up and the California lower situation probably compounded it even more so.

PS: I hope the moderators don't mind my self minded plug. I need to sell some uppers and parts and it isn't like I am a troll with my 2478 post count.
 
I don't always buy stuff from the cheapest supplier. I weigh a number of factors to make my decision and often buy locally (in fact usually). I try to spread my business around and support as many businesses as I can, but there are some that won't get one dime from me. Sometimes external factors such as political pressure conspire to unfairly put someone out of business, as happened with a certain Minneapolis gun store or with the original Fujiya restaurant in Minneapolis, and these situations are unfair. They are the opposite of a free-market economy at work.

When it comes to Internet sales, as long as one company has as good a reputation for honesty and reliability as the next, I'll almost always go with the cheapest. I see no reason to do otherwise. And $10 amounts to 10 percent of the entire purchase in this case, which is not an insignificant consideration.

P.S. I've added the Ten Percent site to my favorites folder, which makes it an almost sure bet to get some of my hard-earned money in the near future.
 
For all of you who live close to Reno, we have gunshows here quite often and there is always a truckload of AR stuff to be had at them. The big Hilton show is on this weekend. Everything AR you could ever want is there in spades. Everything from stripped lowers to complete guns at multiple tables all over the display floor.

Fill me in: what's the story on CA-legal ARs now? Can you poor sods actually own a black rifle again, as long as it's inert and painted paisley pink with a blaze orange flash hider?
 
AR's are banned by name. Someone figured out that the DOJ hadn't updated their AR list in over 4 years, so there are many lowers that are currently made that can be bought legally in CA.

The only catch is that you can't make it into an Assault weapon by features (detachable magazine and one of the following: suppressor, pistol grip, forward grip...) So basically we have to pin the magazine in place.

There's plenty of AR stuff around. It might not be exactly what you want, though.

Gottahaveitnow Syndrome is a good way to get into debt anyway... Just wait a few weeks for the AR.

And yes, California is probably the reason for the backorder. It's a serious pARty here right now. Everybody's doin' it.
 
I think the only thing REALLY going on i n the AR world is that you tried to build one and notice that the biz seems to do inventory in large batches that run out.

Surge and drought seem to be the SOP in the ar parts world, cheap, expensive, or otherwise. The more you have your heart set on something specific, the more you will notice it.

The war has been felt more in ammo and accessories more than parts, at least if not talking about boutique tactical rail systems and mounts.

A regular part of the waxing and waning of supply though is impending nice weather. Need something to do while going stir crazy from too much winter and not enough shooting, and you want it done by the first really nice day. This results in lots of people needing their parts NOW!!!
 
Part of my rush is that I want to go coyote hunting on Sunday and need to have a rear sight by Saturday so I can sight it in.

A big plus one for Ten Percent. He was one of the first to stick his neck out to get the whole Cali-AR ball rolling. We here in CA owe him big time, which is why I made the two-hour drive up to Taft twice just to buy from him. Give him your business, LB. :)
