Hey guys. I just wanted your opinion on my latest project. I'm thinking of buying a Model 700 Special Purpose Synthetic Varmint in .308.

I know for sure I want to extend the magazine. This model comes with the 26" heavy contoured barrel. Do you guys have any input on other upgrades I'd want to consider? For example, jeweling the bolt, and trigger modifications?

Any input of this is appreciated guys!

Buy the best scope you can afford and shoot a couple hundred rounds through it. Either learn how to adjust the trigger or pay someone to do it for you. You will probably want to upgrade the stock at some time but that is about it.

The beauty of the 700 is that it doesn't need anything substantial done to it. A trigger adjustment will get you under 3 pounds and very crisp, and they are accurate out of the box. If you want more and can reload for it, get the David Tubb final polish kit to smooth up the barrel and you might need bedding depending on how it shoots.

get the David Tubb final polish kit
I heard great things about that, but I got it for my 5R, which shot great. after the kit, it did not improve. In fact it seems to be shooting a hair worse. Only about .1 moa difference, so it could be coinicidence, but it certainly didn't help.
