I have a website that I'd like to add more to.
www.is-lan.com/challenge

If any of you know of anyone who has done outreach to non-shooters to try to expand our community, and therefor future voters to help us out, please let me know about them. I want to add a section to the web site outlining these ideas. Each idea will have as much detail as possible so that others can copy their efforts.

I really think that it wouldn't take much effort to double the number of people who have had positive exposure to firearms.

If new and especially young people aren't recruited onto our side, then we'll eventually lose. That's a simple fact. We could win every battle we fight, yet still lose the war if we don't pursue this avenue.

One example I'm working on and will add to the site soon:
Get permission to setup an indoor BB-Gun range in an underground parking lot to a building. Run newspaper ads and setup a one page website explaining the operation. The range would be almost free, maybe $1-2, and would emphasize exposure, safety training and a take home handout package. There would also maybe be shooting contests at the end of the day or following day. The range would be open Saturdays once a month and BB-Guns and ammo would be included. -This would be setup completely privately and at the mercy of no "officials".

I offer twice a year an NRA Basic Rifle course for any one under the age of 18 with parents permission. I also teach NRA Basic Pistol and Basic Rifle course 3/4 of the year. Winters are harsh in NH. In the basic class's I always have at least two or three people thinking about guns but don't own any and trying to see what they are about. I bring a reasonable selection to the range and they can try any they want if they pay for the ammo.

I also teach a Boy Scout Explorer post each year. They normally have several teenagers that have never shoot.

One of my local clubs is avidly encouraging youngsters with indoor air weapons practice and . is planning to graduate them to .22's soon.

For myself .. I am hoping to do an NRA instructor's course in a month or so ... and then offer myself locally ..... not for fees ... just helping with education and range familiarity when I can.

Once you get them to take the "red pill", guns are a pretty easy cause to get people motivated to do- it's extremly fun, and people don't want their toys taken away (in addition to the obviouls self defense and 2A right stuff).

I'm raising some new shooters. The kids know the safety rules and the why's behind the safety rules. My 10, 12, and 14 year olds can all name each one of the freedoms enumerated in the Bill of Rights (can you? can your kids?)

I'm part of an outreach to women shooters which incidentally is a lot of fun. I think almost any woman with some time, some organizing skills, and some motivation could get a similar study group going in her area. It doesn't take a lot of knowledge. Anyone interested in starting a similar group can PM me.

And I'm an assistant RO for the free handgun safety seminars offered at a nearby shooting school. There really is nothing like watching a beginning shooter learn the basics and gain confidence! It's a very energizing, enjoyable way to spend an afternoon on the range.

Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and these ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. -- Robert F. Kennedy
