Excessive? or just really well prepared?

For CCW, excessive. If you actually need that many magazines, you should have had a rifle. If you should have had a rifle, you should have avoided the situation altogether. I can't think of any public civilian defensive situation that would require 77 rounds. I imagine that if you actually used your gun defensively and the responding officers found you with that much extra ammunition, it would be pretty easy to argue that you were looking for a fight.

I typically have between 7 and 12 rounds total, depending on the pistol.

This could explain where Bruce got all those mags from in "Last Man Standing"... :uhoh:

Wait, that was a double shoulder rig, do they make a pocket mag holder version. :D

Also, in this month's SWAT there's a spring-loaded 6 mag setup for the belt made out of Kydex. Maybe there's a market?

Mav, if ya lived in Southern Arizona in an area with zero cell phone coverage for 15 miles and regular drug smuggler traffic.......... ya would question anyone with less than 4 mags for their XD ;) In the last couple years smugglers have gotten more public with their shootouts generally they are useing FA toys.....

BTW when practical...... I do carry a rifle but as I only ride a Harley and don't drive any cars its usually not practical to carry a rife out here.... Average sheriffs response time for a 911 shooting in progress call was 1.5 hours (unfortunately we got to find out last year) so tell me how many rnds do ya think ya might need while pinned down for 1.5 hours? is 7 still enough? and the only reason that call was possible in the first place was because it wasn't raining...... during monsoon season our land line is usually outa service in that case what ya have is all your life is worth cause there is no cavalry commin ;) I also practice regularly with all my handguns out to 100 yards.... its kinda wide open out here as well so ya better be carryin something that hits hard and accuratly at extended ranges, hint anything under .40 S&W isn't gonna work very well.

Resident Evil, anyone?

I always appreciated the fact that your have to reload your weapons in those games, but you have unlimited mags (you drop your empties on the ground and never pick them up) and you can top off instantly on the items screen. A rig like that would help explain part of it, anyway.

You couldn't even use all of them on Zombies. Your pistol would overheat and jam way before you shot off all those Mags in succession.

Unless they make that for other model mags, like say a Glock double stack, then maybe you could shoot that much ammo w/out issue

As a matter of fact, a couple 33 rounders in my G19 and I'd have almost as much ammo, and I can stick those in my pocket.... I've shot out a 33 rounder in short order before, haven't tried shooting 60+ consecutive rounds, but I have seen people on tv run the G19 full auto through 33rds in a couple seconds, so I'm sure I could get into the hundreds of semi auto fire before having any issues, wouldn't want to get any flesh near the slide though...

While many of you do make valid points on the "need" for such devices, have we missed a smaller point? This is AMERICA, home of the free (for now). The Land where you can shop till you drop and buy anything you're willing to pay for (except in a few select States). Hell, I don't need a truck that will tow 17,000 pounds, but I bought one because I WANTED it and I "might" need it one day. You don't need a sports car that will go 150mph when the speed limit is 75, but damn it sure is fun:D (if you're willing to pay the ticket). So let's not take the purely practical approach, we have lots and lots of toys that are just plain fun and/or cool, because we CAN:evil:!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure where this guy lives, but if I were him I might think about moving.

unless in a combat theater over seas, you will run out of time before you run out of ammo.....

but it does have the makings of a late night t.v. show, the lone vigilanty with his 300 rounds of justice....wrongly sought by the law for a crime he didnt commit, he spends his life seeking the true killer of his wife's boyfriend....heck, the bionic woman is making a come back so why not?:neener:

Folks, just because a maker will make it for you doesn't mean it is necessary. Or even his idea. Or even intended to wear other than as a novelty. Or... You get the idea.

Andrews makes great stuff at competitive prices, by the way.

Everyone knows that ONE guy who can't make an IPSC stage with less than 75 shots. This is the answer. ;)

I typically have between 7 and 12 rounds total, depending on the pistol.

I typically have a loaded M13 on my right side, a loaded T85UL on my left side, and a P32 in my back pocket. Three speedloaders for the M13 in my right photog vest pocket, two speed loaders for the 85UL in my left vest pocket, a speed strip for either in my watch pocket (unless I'm wearing my pocket watch!), and a spare mag for the P32 in my other back pocket. Usually totals up to around 60 rounds.

So, other than the bulk on one side, what was excessive?

I have at times carried up to six extra 15 shot magazines. The situation could have called for them when I carried that many, but luckily did not. Better to be prepared for it, than to run out of ammo when needed.

All the best,

A perfect example for a quote worthy of repeating...

"You do know you could find yourself charged with being a dominant species while under the influence of impulse-driven consumerism, don't you?"

Just for grins and snickers, I gotta see if they'll make one that'll hold multiple Glock 17+2 magazines or maybe 3 or 4 G18 33 rd sticks for Miami duck hunters. Muahaha :D

carried 6 mags for a browning on a belt and a shoulder rig for a mp5 k plus two mags but that was the military.
that shoulder rig looks ideal for sledgehammer

Actually, I seem to recall that the shotgun rig was originally made for an undercover DEA agent: he wanted to impress the drug-runners. I have to admit, there are times that rig would be REAL nice to have...

As for the mag pouch: if I need that many mags, they'd better be for a rifle!

well...

If I were out on a 1911 bunny hunt I would like to have that set up!

But as far as excessive, well sometimes the wife thinks so :uhoh:

I won't post the pictures this time but the most I pack is:

xd-45 66 rds (4 spare mags)
357mag 63 rds (2 speedloaders, 2 second-six pouches, 6 speedstrips)
22mag (5 spare)

its only an extra 20lbs to pack around
