I went to a gun show here in FW over the weekend, and surprisingly I couldnt find a basic AK in the whole show. There were quite a few underfolders and side folders with synthetic handguards, but I wanted a plain-jane wood stock & handguard model, and I couldnt find one in the whole stinkin' place.

So yesterday after class I swung by a local gunshop known to specialize in mil-surps and the like. Last week they only had AK's in 5.45x39, but no 7.62x39. Apparently over the weekend, they had received some Century AK's in 7.62x39, exactly like I wanted, so I jumped on it.

Its $400, with tax... out the door. I'm really excited, as I've always wanted an AK. I feel the price is fair, especially considering the convenience of buying locally.

Now I'd just waiting on the stupid NICS check, since it came back delayed. :banghead:

Expect minute of pie plate at 100 yds. I just picked one up myself with 5 mags, sling, bayonet and cleaning kit for $390. http://www.classicarms.us/ They are great, reliable guns. Now to sand down the stock and refinish. Get as much ammo as you can now!

Glad you found one, Grant! The shows around here and getting to be more and more crap but MGS always comes through...eventually.

I bought mine there for almost the exact same price. I wanted the original stock as well but the magwell was the tightest on a sidefolder. He threw in a buttstock and five Yugo mags for 500 bucks on the nose. Not the cheapest deal, but I was also willing to pay for the convenience.

Sucks you got delayed. They stick me with it all the time so I've gotten used to taking loooong lunches after I do my paperwork...:D

i never was so thankfull for having a uncommon name than when nics became
law,ive never been delayed.

my best friend has a common name and all of his evil twins cause delays,he finally got sick of it and aquired a ffl.

You can't get more common than "Smith," and I've yet to experience a problem with NICS here in Texas. But hey, I moved here from the PRC just 16 months ago, so 10 minutes seems like a little slice of heaven.

Thanks yall!

I havent received a call-back from the gun shop yet, but they said that I could pick it up on Friday if they dont call sooner. Although annoying (that the govt treats law abiding citizens as if we're criminals), I wont have time for a range trip till the weekend anyway.

Congrats! I've never had a delay on the NICS. It's always hard to wait. I've also had good results with Barnual 7.52 x 39, and there is a big difference in accuracy over Wolf. They might have Barnual as the gun shop, if it's the one I'm thinking about, (i.e. the one on the East side of FW, not the one on the North side), well anyway, if you can't find Barnual. It's sold at Academys under the "Monarch" brand name.

Yeah, its probably the one you're thinking of... its "Military Gun Supply" on east Loop 820.

I already have a decent sized stash of Monarch/Barnaul 7.62x39, as I already have an SKS. :D

im more of a AK 74 fan with the 5.45 less recoil and i think ammo is cheaper i like the all black more black ops

Well, I am more of a 7.62x39 guy, especially considering that 5.45 is not really available around here. Heck, even Walmart has 7.62x39 here. I know some of yall will holler "mail order", but I don't do that. Especially considering that I can't- I'm under 21.

And also, some of us prefer the wood and steel. Even the cheap wood of the AK...

ak74s

if i wanted to go with a small bore defense carbine id go for the 5.45 long before the 5.56 for seveeral reasons;if you use the russian design bullet its a better stopper,it has alot less muzzle blast,

the romainian ak74 i had was lighter than any of my 7.62 aks.

but i must say i prefer the 7.62,its better on barriers and vehicles
