Experience with Accurate #5

I load for 9mm, 38 sp, and 10mm. Historically I have used Win231/hp38 which has been great for everything except the 10mm but still gives nice easy target loads. (When I want real hot loads I buy them new).

I'd like something that I can continue to use across my calibers, but that I can get a bit more umph from my 10mm.

I was looking at Accurate #5, how does it meter? What's has your experience been with it? Thanks.

Accurate #5 is my alternate powder for 45 ACP (700-X is the primary) and it meters well.

I have used it in other places as well.

I use AA#5 in non-magnum .38 and .44 Spl. The 10mm uses #7 better, but I do have load info for #5.

It's a good versatile powder. It won't make the 10MM scream, and won't out do W-231 by much, if any, with 155 Gr bullets, but is better suited to the heavier bullets in 10MM than W-231.

I was looking for a alternative for Unique and I found favor with Accurate #5 for warm 38spl, mild 357mag, 44spl and 45acp.

I experimented with AA#5 for 124gr 9mm, and liked the results. I loaded light and it burned very clean and gave good results on a chrono.
I also loaded some 130gr and they also ran well.

My press didn't like how fine the powder was in a LEE Disc system. It leaked too much powder. After some modification shown on the LEE FAQ site it got "better". It's listed as one of two that cause leaking problems.
A 550B may leak some of the fine powder but BLUE offers a free fix.--happened to a mod on another forum.

It's one of my favorite powders. #7 or even #9 may work better in the 10, but #5 is better in the other calibers. Why limit yourself to just one powder? the cost is the same, either way you need powder, why not just use one of the better powders for each caliber than to just have one that works "ok" in some calibers.

#5 is one of my favorite powders, too.

It won't give you an edge on performance over 231 in 10mm, but it'll work nicely in those 9mms and 38s.

I've used #7 and #9, but not in 10mm. When I want a fast .357, .45 Colt, 9x23 or 38 Super those both work nicely.

AA5 is one of my favorite powders.

I load it in my 550B for 9mm. Firing it in my Radom Vis, I am getting strings with a standard deviation of 9 fps through the chrono.

The AA pistol powders all meter very well. I use AA#2 for 45acp, 38special, etc. I also use AA#5 for 40S&W with 180gr bullets. It meters fantastically uses a relatively small charge weight and shoots very well.

AA#5 works very well in the 45 Auto and it should since it was developed specifically for that cartridge. It's also my choice for building 135gr Speer .38 Special +P Short Barrel replica load.

As for metering, it's a Ball Powder so it meters like water.
