Exposing the Lies of "Future Weapons"

What ammo does your AK use? Is it 7.62?

Not that 7.62. He should have known better. Watching that show, I always felt I was watching an infomercial put out by some huckster trying to sell something to the gobment.

that spoof was great.

FW kind of sucks. it's always entertaining to watch people shooting and stuff blowing up, but most of the stuff they say is just plain stupid.

After talking to someone that has supplied some of the weapons on that show, Mack doesn't take his own shots. Him pulling the trigger is matched up with someone else's shot hitting the target. He was however an actual SEAL. It's really good to know that a Navy SEAL cant hit the broadside of a barn even with optics. Hope he was good at hand to hand combat.

FW is a lot of hype and a fair amount of BS.

But let's put the blame where it belongs: the writers and director.

Mack is a SEAL, if he weren't you can be damn sure we would have heard about it by now. No one gets away with making a claim like that on national TV for years if it isn't true.

Also, Mack is read a script. As an actor, that's his job. That's it. He doesn't get to write the show. If he doesn't do what the director says, the simply fire him and find a new "cool guy" to fill his spot. All of the errors can be traced back to faulty writing, poor directing, and lazy editing. The actor is just reading the lines he's given. Being a former SEAL doesn't give an actor in a TV show the authority to tell the director in the middle of a shoot that the scene is all wrong and that he knows better. That's how you get fired. The same goes with all of the visual errors. For every shot that is seen one camera, dozens are probably filmed. Now the editors don't know jack about guns. They get raw footage, and trim and compile it into a show. A lot of times they will hack up scenes and cut and paste around to get the best looking product. To them, it doesn't have to be true or real, it just has to look good. They take the best shot of the round hitting the target with the best shot of Mack pulling the trigger. They don't have to be the same real shot. Crap like that doesn't matter to TV editors and producers. To us, it looks awkward and faked. But that doesn't mean Mack doesn't know what he's doing. It only means the editors don't care what's real or true. Just what looks good on TV.

"This is the .308, the same round used by the legendary AK-47."

This is untrue based solely on the fact that the AK's 7.62 round actually retains a .311 diameter. I thought that was funny.

I'm watching the show about the LWRC...IOR? Basically looks like an M4-like carbine with an HBAR and some kind of ability to fire from an open bolt in full auto, and they are trying to say it replaces and improves the capabilities of the SAW. They are convieniently omitting mentioning some of the capabilities of the M4 and SAW in order to make their wonder rifle look better.

Right.....

I would actually like to know how they adapted an AR (or what definitely looks like one) to shoot from an open bolt.

Bogie has hit the real significance of this show. For a long time, nothing related to firearms ever made it on the air. The fact that this is as popular as it is gives me some hope. The more that guns get on the air in a neutral or positive light and stay on the air, the better for us all.

That being said, I can't stand the host or the show, and I spend my gun time when watching TV on the History channel. Much better programming, although it has its moments too. It's all entertainment and I am tickled that so many people are watching all of it.

I worked on a couple of live movie scenes in Ontario Canada in the past (gun Guy) delivering firearms for a Company who owned all kinds of movie guns.

After watching an actor pointing a Colt .45 at an other actor, I mentioned to the Director that the gun will not fire with the hammer down! There was not going to be a shot fired in this scene, but they re did it with the hammer cocked anyhow!

My thanks (besides being paid for the delivery of a Winchester lever action) was a real good meal, on set, those actors and technicians eat good!

I like Futureweapons. Seeing weapons in motion is always good fun, and gun coverage on TV advances the 2nd Amendment.

When Mac fires a new weapon in compairison to an old type he always fires high to hit the target. Im talking about the targets that fall backwards on a hinge when hit. He shot the mp5 at the torso of the standing target, Then when he takes out the Kriss and aims for a head shot. of course the target falls and shows how much energy gets transfered witht he .45 instead of the 9mm. (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEex2UChBtw&feature=related) Also when he shows a gun (cant remember which one) he has at least 2 optics mounted guns. (one aimpoint and one acog.)

Its the Kriss.... The eotech and aimpoint were the scopes

Remember the IAR episode?
He fires some rounds through the M4, and pours water over the barrel, and the water hisses. So: the barrel is hot.
Then he fires some rounds through the IAR, and touches the bolt. So: The bolt is cool.
My question: What was it with keeping the barrel cool? What about the IAR´s barrel? A cold bolt after shooting probably means it´s a short-stroke gas piston system.
