I shooting a new S&W 627 satin finish SS 357mag. My problem is brown staining on my cylinder exterior & other close by metal parts, especially after going thru 100-200 rounds. Tightgroup powder seems to be the worst about making this stain but I also use Unique & Win296. I've tried some gun cleaners, auto carb. cleaners, solvents, & ordered that expensive Mpro-7 cleaner that S&W told me would clean my staining away, it did a real nice cleaning job on the bore but won't budge the staining. I know I can't be the only shooter out there with this problem. I have not tried abrasive cleaners since my finish is a glass bead satin, the abrasive cleaners would end up polishing the metal, that would be a disaster.HELP!

Try a "Lead-Away" type cloth.
These are made to remove leading and carbon off STAINLESS STEEL revolvers, NOT blued, since the cloth will strip bluing off.
Simply rub the fouled areas, and the carbon strips right off.

A bead blasted finish is always difficult to clean due to fouling settling into the rough finish.
Another product to try is one of the carbon cleaners sold by Brownell's.

Sorry about the double posting I didn't think the 1st post made it in, anyhow
I'll have to look for the cloth product @ Dicks or my gun dealer. This staining I mentioned doesn't seem to be a carbon type residue, it's not black but yellow/brown sort of like smokers stain seen on your fingers. The general carbon black aftermath residue comes off fairly well with cleaners but the brown stain stays behind especially in the flute area. For sure I thought S&W would have a good answer & the Mpro-7 sounded like the ticket but it wasn't even after I soak it on for 10 min. This product seems like a soap of sorts. I just may have to live with it but it does look bad for a new revolver. A friend thought it was a heat stain from the metal cylinder overheating from the expelled gasses but I can touch it easy after 50 quick fired rounds & it's just warm. I really think it's a byproduct of the burnt gasses leaking out before the forcing cone.
