My project gun, a combat commander, is ejecting brass straight up too high. On the bright side, it's ejecting it and it's pretty consistent :D I need to fix the trajectory though. I'll be fitting a new FP Stop and probably a new extractor. The existing extractor is clocking pretty bad.

My question ... is a clocked extractor a likely culprit for the mile high brass?

I would look at the ejector as the culprit for straight up thrown brass. A light spring or very heavy loads will cause "energetic" ejection. If the gun feeds and extracts well, I would not worry too much about the clocking extractor.

If the extractor is clocking, you will get one case straight up, one case off to the side, and another case somewhere else.

If is extracting reliably and ejecting all of them more or less in the same place?

It's the ejector.
