Extreme High Ride OWB Hoslters???

Yep. . .another one of "those" threads: which holster is "better"?

I'm in the market for an everyday carry OWB holster for my G29. I want solid, dependable, and, above all, good retention (as the holster may be used on the trail as well as around town). I've carried IWB for years but for various reasons I am moving into the OWB style carry and want a HIGH RIDE holster. I've narrowed my selection down to a couple of holster makers and want some opinions.

The first high ride I stumbled on to was Rusty Sherrick's U.S. High Ride. It looks well made and can be had in a canted version (I think). Rusty's work gets great reviews. However, I've read threads suggesting folks interested in the US High ride check out TT Gunleather's Pancake holster (also a high ride) as the TT Gunleather holster is a little beefier and can manage top heavy firearms better. Like Rusty, TT Gunleather also makes high quality, good looking leather products. Finally, I saw Mitch Rosen's Upper Limit and the UPL Express. Both look like great products and closely resemble the U.S. High Ride but with a higher price tag to boot (the UPL Express is more affordable, of course).

I would love some feedback as this will be my first OWB holster.

BTW, I would love a holster that can do double duty: strong side and cross draw!

I don't like them because the balance seems off. My gun always feels like its going to flip over.

Make sure you use it with a good wide belt and they work better with lower capacity guns. In other words a gun that is not so heavy in the handle.

The Bulman Gunleather THR and FBS-H ride pretty high. If you wish to carry x-draw the THR would be better.

I was thinking the TT Gunleather Pancake would be a good choice. It rides a little lower on the belt and has a forward cant (cross draw is out). It would probably provide better balance since the G29 carries 10 rounds of 10mm in the mag - considerable weight.

I remember looking at the Bulman and will take a better look now that you mention it. Reminds me of the TTG pancake.

I just need something "concealable." I dislike the idea of a holster showing at all which is why the "high ride" style OWBs appeal to me.

I've got a Mernickle high-ride OWB for my 4-5/8" Blackhawk. Nice workmanship. They list it as a "concealment holster", but I use it for field carry - keeps the gun out of the way, but handy. They make a version for semi-autos: Mernickle PS6

My Rusty Sherrick fits the bill...this is the real "High Ride" Holster.



It works with small pistols...such as the Glock 26 here. Larger pistols involve too much arm upward movemnet during drawing and would not be ergo. The slide/grip weight ratio on the baby glock makes for a perfect high ride choice.

Been doing some research lately-can't give you any personal experience, but DeSantis is on my short list, 'specially if you want the option of strong side/cross draw (with or without thumb break retention). I'm narrowing my search down to lined holsters-can only get the thumb break model lined-don't know why they don't offer the Speed Scabbard lined.

If dual duty is not taken into account, the other 2 on my list are:
Galco FX Suede
High Noon High Ride (they use synthetic linings)
'Course, if lined is not important to you, you have more options at all three makers' sites.

All of these are high ride, but you mentioned "extreme high ride"?

Jest a few more options?

Dawgfvr: I've seen those pics before and part of reason why I am leaning towards Rusty Sherrick's US High Ride.

Basicblur: High ride vs Extreme high ride. . .I just want something that rides at or above the belt line. That Desantis you linked would make a great trail holster.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm acquiring a Glock 27 and may focus on it instead of the G29 for everyday carry. G27 holsters are probably easier to find; the G27 will carry better on a daily basis anyway.
