Howdy, folks!

Hope you can help me out with a short query.

I am right-handed/right-eye dominant. As I went through draw drills tonight (with a Blue Gun), I decided to practice drawing with my left hand. However, as I brought the pistol up, it dawned on me that I wasn't sure which eye to sight with.

If I'm drawing left-handed, do I continue to use my dominant/right eye to sight on target or do I use my non-dominant/left eye?

I'll have to disagree with the first response. Stay with your dominant eye when shooting from the weak hand. Infact the only time it would cause you problems is if you were shooting a rifle or shotgun left handed.

If you are shooting from cover off the left side of a barricade with the gun in your left hand then you should consider switching to the left eye. That is if you can see you front sight clearly with your left eye. The reason for switching to the left eye would be that you expose less of your face to your threat.

If exposure to a threat is not a concern then continue to use your dominant eye.

I agree with using your dominant eye to shoot weakside with a handgun. One thing to remember is don't bring your head over to use the sights. An easier way is to simply cant the gun slightly so you can line up. I'm only talking about a couple of degrees here, not a "homeboy" type of grip.

Change hands, not eyes.

Trying to use your left eye leaves you with only one viable choice; closing your right eye. Not a good plan to keep a wide as possible field of view.

Canting the pistol inboard will solve two problems. First, it will help you control recoil with your non-dominant hand. Secondly, it will put the sights closer to alignment with your right eye.

I just keep both eyes open. Maybe it works for me because I am left handed but my right hand is my strong side. :)
