I need a little help from the collective...
I'm writing a paper about the firearms industry and would like to know more about factors that might influence future demand (positive or negative). I'd prefer cited resources, if possible.
Things I've already begun researching:
How the assault weapons ban of 1994 (expired) influenced demand;
HR 1022 (currently in congress: new ban);
Variation in state and local laws (could use some help with this!);
How “sporting” firearms (as defined by the ATF) influences import demand;
Interpretation of the second amendment (parker case);
Proliferation of concealed carry laws;
Rise in violent crime;
Fear of terrorism (what happened after 9/11??);
Fear of natural disasters (Katrina);
Potential zombie uprising (ok, that's a joke);
FYI, this isn't just limited to the commercial market. Military and LE demand count here too. I'm looking into S&W and their intro of the M&P pistols and if it "created" demand by having LE trade in old pistols just because a new one popped up.
