The old Winchester Model 12 was 5+1. Actually w/o mag plug in place most field grade pumps are 4+1. My Ithaca 37 Turkey Slayer is 4+1 as is Remington Wingmaster.

The Winchester Model 12 actually holds 6 + 1 of those new fangled star-crimped shells!!

5+1 of the old roll-crimped shells.

Same capacity with the older Model 97.

Almost all repeating shotguns are 4+1 or 5+1 with the plug removed. I can only think of a handful that are not.

Remington 870, 1100, 11-87
Browning BPS, and all semi's
Benelli Nova
Mossberg 500 (5+1), 930
Winchester, Super X3, 1300, SXP

Beretta and Benelli semi's are usually 3+1 to shorten the mag tube and change the guns balance. Those are the only ones I can think of that are not 4 or 5+1 that are currently being produced.

Now gentlemen how many of you have downed a bird with that last shot from the high capacity magazine?

4+1, 5+1, 6+1 ect.

Not me, but you never know.

Virginia:

Shotgun And Rabbit Regulation Changes Effective October 26, 2007

The Board of Game and Inland Fisheries passed a regulation that took effect on October 26, 2007 that makes it legal to use unplugged shotguns for the hunting and taking of non-migratory game (this includes deer, bear, turkey, rabbit, squirrel, grouse, quail, bobcat, coyote, fox, raccoon, opossum, groundhog, and skunk). This is a change from what is printed in the Hunting & Trapping in Virginia, July 2007-June 2008 Regulations digest, in the second bullet under Legal Use of Firearms on page 21.

Shotguns must still be plugged to a three shell capacity if hunting and taking migratory game (this includes doves, crows, all ducks, all geese including resident Canada geese, tundra swans, rail, snipe, woodcock, gallinules, and moorhens).

I have a 1982 made Remington 870 Wingmaster that is 4+1. It is my home defense shotgun. I bought it at the estate sale of an older gentleman who was a real Green Beret in Viet Nam. If you had met the man before his death he would impress you as being an old English distinguished gentleman. I have no doubt that had trouble come to him he was more than capable of dealing with it.

I love guns, knives and other personal tools that belonged to someone who's special to you in some way. It makes that item feel special as well. He sounds like a really cool guy and someone I could have learned from. I hope you plan to keep that Wingmaster.

Back on topic: IIRC, I believe that most of the Mossberg 500 line is 5+1, regardless of gauge. The exceptions are some of the defensive guns (more capacity) and some for smaller/younger shooters, which have smaller capacity, like the Mini Bantams (505, 510, etc.). I'm pretty sure some have 4+1 capacity, and I think a few are even 3+1. Very small shotguns.

All my best,
Dirty Bob
