I'm using a sporterized 1895 Chilean mauser for mule deer and elk and wondered if anyone knows a source for factory 7x57 ammunition, preferably with the Barnes TSX bullet. Also, any recommendations for bullet size using the TSX?

Thanks

Check out www.midwayusa.com. Click ammunition at the top and then click rifle, followed by caliber. They stock most every brand of factory ammo for most calibers. To my knowledge, there's no factory ammo available in 7x57 with TSX's

The closest you are going to get would be the Hornady Superformance 7X57 loaded with the 139gr gilding metal expanding bullet (Hornady's version of the Barnes tipped triple shock). Not sure if the Superformance ammo should be used in an older rifle though.

Thanks Everyone,

I'm in nw California, outside of the no-lead zone but still prefer a solid copper bullet. I use the tsx 85gr with my Icon .243 with great success on the Columbia blacktail deer here.

Want to use my 7mm mauser for larger game, but looks like the only way to get a box of tsx shells is to get them custom reloaded. Is this possible? I want to stick with low pressure rounds (<45,000psi) with my older and presumably weaker 95' action.

I priced some on Midway which seems to have a pretty good selection of both bullets and prices. You can also pick up reloads on Gun Broker in packs of 100 for around $80. The bullets aren't Barnes but pretty good none the less. You can also asked these professional reloaders to give you a price for any bullet load you want.

I just sold my 7x57 Ackley.

My DWM Chilean, 1897 manufacture, works well using the previously mentioned Federal Premium 140 Nosler Partitions.

Nothing factory loaded has ever given a bit of problem in my 95 Mauser.

If you really have to have leadfree, the Hornady GMX is likely the easiest and cheapest COTS option.

I will vouch for superior Ammunition. Larry is a great guy and will send you you a sample pack of 5 different loads for a particular bullet to help you determine the most accurate load in your rifle. He does good work.
