And one chart shows that about 130 children a year are likely to die being driven to school in the family car. Considering that at the peak 2006 school year, 63 were killed by a shooter, you should see where I'm taking this.
Just driving to school - family car, bus or whatever - is more dangerous that BEING in school. Sure, statistics can be made to say anything, but we might as well use them. The other side certainly makes up all they want.

I don't expect facts and figures to do much in some discussions, but telling those focused on "if it save just one child" that THEY are more likely to kill their kids, it might get thru.
Honestly - when you count up all the ways kids get killed (and their should be no question that any child's death is a horrible thing,) what I see is that the primary caretaker is more likely to endanger a child than most of the other risks. Worse, it's commonly due to neglect - check the figures on pool drownings.
