Police: Road Rage Suspect Waves Gun At Officer
Suspect Is Being Held On Bond

FAIRFAX, Va. -- A man accused of waving a gun at an off-duty police officer during an alleged road rage incident is now under arrest.

Investigators said the off-duty officer was driving east on Intestate 66 in the area of Nutley Street when a man in a Toyota pickup truck pointed a gun out the window in the direction of the officer.

The officer called in a report and on-duty officers were sent in to talk to the driver of the Toyota. Those officers arrested and charged Ralph Clark Fisher Jr. (pictured, right), 51, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and brandishing a firearm.

Police released a photograph of the back window of Fisher's pickup truck. It includes several stickers and signs that say "Pardon my driving, I'm reloading as fast as I can!" "Gun control means using both ands," "Tailgate at your own risk" and the U.S. flag.

Fisher is being held on $2,500 bond on each charge.

convicted felon with a firearm

It stands to reason why he's a convicted felon and why he shouldn't have had a gun to be waving anyway. No sympathy from me.

It never ceases to amaze me that people continue to do this kind of thing considering the number of cell phones out there.

I hate the fact that they made news out of the felon's RKBA stickers though. I don't see how they are relevant. The PAO at the PD needs his hand slapped.

El Tejon asked;
Whatever happened to the quaint notion of NOT calling attention to oneself when committing a crime? :scrutiny:

A perfect justification for a law we've wanted here in Illinois for as long as I've had a badge. Aggravated Ignorance It would be an additional charge with enhanced sentencing for those who are too stupid to be successful criminals.

We've had no shortage of members who agree with this guy. "Nobody should be barred of the RTKBA, period, including convicted Felons".
It's worked its way into many threads over the last year.

We just call it going "stupid with intent". That covers most people. Then there are always the ones who violate the "Adhesion Law"

Those are the ones that stuck around too long.:D

That guy was just dumb. Capital D...Capital U.... Capital M. DUM.

I agree with the notion that felons have a right to defend themselves once they've done their time. I do not agree with this particular felon, who pointed a firearm at someone without threat to his life. There is a difference there, you know.

Many things are a felony these days, like having one round too many in the wrong magazine, or having the wrong piece of metal affixed to your rifle. I don't think that running afoul of victimless malum prohibitum crime laws should automatically mean the loss of the right to legal self defense for the rest of your life.

details..

both mentioned, and unmentioned...

SS- I'm curious how this road rage incident developed. The story leads one to believe that this guy was just driving along, rode up next to the o/d officer, and waved a gun... That is highly unlikely. If there are any eyewitnesses, I'll bet they indicate a mutual ... disagreement ... about something which transpired along I66.
NOT that this itself justifies the crime of Brandishing, but the news report is lacking.

Also, note the presence of the mention of, and picture of the truck bumper stickers. That's not a usual detail which makes a news report. You can bet that it will be raised in court though.

When I carry

concealed, I obey every stupid little law I know and am exceedingly
polite, even to idiots who drive slow in the fast lane and cut me off
and even to people who flip me the bird for no reason.
And would only pull my gun out if my life was in danger or if
some one was getting killed. It amazes me that this guy would be so
obvious.

By the logic none of the laws work. Everytime someone murders someone or speeds, or drives drunk.
But none of those laws exercise prior restraint on law-abiding citizens. I don't have to have a background check to buy a car. I don't even have to have a driver's license to buy a car.

We've argued this before, and obviously don't agree (and won't until you finally see the light:) ).

But you did bring it up in this thread .... :p

Maybe the cop cut him off accidentally. Or failed to yield right-of-way. Or did some other bone-headed manuever that we all occasionally commit accidentally. Would this mitigate in the least a person threatening deadly force on him? I think we can all safely say "No."
