Both parties are blaiming the defeat of the Amnesty Bill on Talk Radio. The Democrats are now wanting to reinstate the "Fairness Doctrine" to force radio stations to counterbalance all the conservative talk shows with leftist agitprop. The stations would have to pay for leftist programs that haven't been able to sustain ratings with the hoped-for outcome being that they would find it too expensive to keep the popular conservative shows on the air.

I remember the fairness doctrine that supposedly made all the users of public airways present both sides of a controversy. They got around it by claiming anti-gun agitation was straight news reporting. They also ran anti-gun theme episodes on made for TV movies and televisions series. They claimed that these were merely entertainment shows, not propaganda but it was obvious the way they ran them when the Democrats had an anti-gun bill working its way through the legislature. In one episode of Adam 12 right when the Kennedy" Saturday Night Special" bill to ban all handguns with less than 12 inch barrels was up for a vote, two kids found a revolver in a dumpster.
" Do you know that is????" THAT is a SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL!!!!" Richard Boone as Heck Ramsey laid down the aside " ANY HANDGUN is made for one purpose only. TO KILL PEOPLE" This was his reply to a dude looking down the barrel of a sheriff's model and observing that the rifling was shallow. William Conrad(the original radio Matt Dillon) had a detective series called Canon. Somebody mentioned his Chiefs Special and asked him if he shot it a lot. He answered that he hated handguns and couldn't understand why anybody would want to shoot one. These antigun shows generally ran right about the time the network was thinking about canceling the series and were often pulled up as reruns when an important vote on a democratic gun bill was coming up

There was one called The Gun that traced a single handgun as it spread mayhem through innocent humanity seemingly going off all by itself.

The first anti-gun documentary was the CBS Murder and the Right to Bear Arms. It contained a minute or two of people stammering out " guns don't kill people. people kill people" and the rest was all Uncle Walter Krankheit's sensationalism about the evils of guns. This was just before GCA 68 and the crew went into a store in Arizona and bought a Lahti 20 mm anti-tank rifle. They approached a policeman out in the street. " We just went in that gun shop and bought this semi-automatic anti tank canon. Don't you think it should be illegal to buy one of these????" Police officer, "No."

The Second Amendment is not the only part of the Bill of Rights the Democrats want to eliminate

The "Fairness Doctrine" is nothing more than an attempt to supress free speech. Nothing more, nothing less. Once the gubmint can decide what's fair they can decide what exists. Anything they don't like becomes "unfair".

Fairness in free speech is just like "reasonable restrictions" on gun rights.
